All my "Amercaunas" came from Meyer, have pea combs, and floofy cheeks. I have been happy with them but frankly I want to get some true rumpless birds for my collection. I think that large hatcheries can be depended on to sell hardy birds that resemble breeds, but are far from the real thing...
The above roo is CRAZY pretty!
I took some photos today and thought I would post...
The one on the left is actually and OE I bread. She was a cross between an EE and an EE x Cuckoo Maran. Iike the blue on the EE.
I LOOOOVE your white with salmon. I am really hoping to make some of these with the group I have. It's really the only color combo I am missing.
They all turn out to be boys when they have white!
This is the little roo at the bottom.
EE next to Barred Rock
This guy went rogue and now lives in the woods on the south side of the property. He's gorgeous!
Yes they are. I trim my wings. It doesn't hurt them and then I don't have to catch them!
OH! That is so cute! Chicks are such a blessing from God. I love all their colors, tiny beaks, soft fuzz, and sweet shapes!
Oh ya. He's just a baby. He looks good sized. I have one similar to him, but not as nicely marked. Yours looks a lot like my Delawares. Very nice bird!
SO I took them out of the bator. The pecker hatched at the very beginning of day 19 and I had to take him out. They seem to be doing better after feeding. The pecker immediately drank before even dipping its beak!
My daughter and I freed the chick in the egg. I was really worried she...
I have a chick in the bator that is a real pecker--and I mean that in the literal sense! It seems to be bent on pecking everything in site. I had one pip and get a quite a large hole in it trying to get out. The pecking chick has pecked through the hole and I think killed it! Weird!!!!!!
Wow! I've never entertained the idea of an inside chicken. I have a few in my flock that are very sweet with very little effort on my part. They have names and get special treatment. I call them and they come out every morning. I pet them and feed them a little corn in my lap. It is nice...
Quick update:
After reading everyone's thoughts on sexing I spent some time outside with the chicks. The White chick I posted that was "spotty" as someone aptly described, has developed a little pink comb just as predicted. I always watch combs, but I am so delighted to reap the benefit of...
Hey everyone. So I posted a pic of a little EE up above. He/she? seems to have the white on them. I read the previous post about male coloring. What coloring combos have all of you come to realize is distinctly male or high possibility?
I have a bunch of EE babies and I thought I'd post a few photos!
The black one is a minorca.
And this is Petunia. 3 years old and still lays every other day!!!!
Those are keepers. Just so special markings.
I'm going to try and breed my EEs this year. Hoping to get some coloring passed on. Not sure how all these recessive mutt genes will play out!
From Wikipedia
"The Araucana or Spanish: Gallina Mapuche is a breed of chicken originating in Chile. It is well known for its blue eggs, which has been a subject of controversy regarding whether or not the breed was developed from birds that arrived pre or post Columbian. The egg colour...
I believe that pinkish is an EE color. Frankly I have always wanted the fabled pink egg layer!
Anyone have a genetics chart on the EE? A little more info on the blue gene?
I believe you are thinking of Auracanas. They are a specific breed with specific colors.
Americanas come in all colors and lay blue tinted eggs. I have 25 out there right now and there are a few different color patterns occurring. Some have lots of yellow and some are mainly chocolate...
