on a different thread, they said that ee dont lay in the winter. mine do. it has been in the teens at night and i am still getting eggs. this is probably the last year that i will use this rooster. he has been a good one.

they are mixed color or non standard ameraucanas aka easter eggers. they might be larger as chicks but the ba, br and rir will be bigger when full grown. also the rir will probably turn out to be a production red if you got it from the feed store.
we got ours from 2 local breeders and call them mix color ameraucanas or non standard ameraucanas. if they were just mix breed mutts then how come so many of them look the same? love their temperament and can turn my back on the rooster. one of the hens loves to be picked up.

isn't it funny how much they resemble each other. could it be they are a true breed ? not just mutts. i wanted a breed of chicken that came out all different colors. why would i want the same color when i could get that from another breed. standard ameraucanas are so boring.
I know that this is a sticky subject but i prefer the term non standard ameraucana to easter egger and not only hatcheries but breed preservationists also use this term. the APA also says that 'cubalayas only recognized colors are black, white, and bb red'. just because i raise red pyle, brown...
you mean brother to sister? i was already thinking of that but suppose they do all come out white? i got the non standard ameraucanas because i liked all the mixed colors that they came in and the blue and green eggs. i got the original 18 hatching eggs from a breeder. all the eggs were sky...
every chick from this pair has been white. i sold a bunch of them last spring but still have the white hen in the first pic. i also have 2 chicks in the brooder that are also white.

Not all EEs are a crossed bird. A lot are pure Ameraucanas that are not "standard color". My birds are pure Ameraucanas but arent of the 5 color varieties so I must call them EEs. None the less I am more proud to have an EE then an Amer. (less rules to obey), but please lets stay on...
sandhill preservation calls them non standard ameraucanas and since they are breed preservationists, i will call mine that too. mine have slate legs and hatched from blue eggs and i have never seen a pink egg or green legs on any of mine. they are not mutts.
