This is exactly how mine look from my hatch of a splash hen and blue roo. I thought they were a light blue but I also read somewhere that sometimes the splashing won't show completely until they are adults. So if they hatch very little, they can get more as they grow. So that's why I'm waiting...
After much research this morning I'm beginning to think I have two splash chicks from this hatch back in June...was curious as to what you guys thought....
Here they are as chicks
Here they are from today (5wks old)
Sorry if I've already posted this here before but I get confused as to which thread I post on - this one or the other silkie thread, but does anyone know what color these chicks are or will I have to wait until they feather out more? One hatched a light grey color so I assumed it was a lighter...
So pretty! Where do you get the bands for the legs? I was looking for them a while back for my 5 lavender chicks, wanted a way to tell them apart while they were growing and I was trying to decide which pairing to keep.
I ended up getting more Silkies because I only had the two of them at that time. I have not been able to place my silkies with the larger birds. I may try again when the teens are a little bigger and I know they're full grown. Not sure if it'll work. I do know some people have had success in...
x2 what Silly said...I tried it, integrating my silkies in with my orpingtons, didn't go over so well. I actually also raised a two silkies with two orpingtons, all were hatched around the same time. As the Orp rooster got older I had to separate them before he caused damage trying to mate with...
Don't let them out in the rain! :lau
Seriously though, Mine have gone out plenty of times in the rain, especially my Roo when he's out with the bigger girls because I like to give the silkie hens a break from him every once in a while. And to be honest, I don't do a thing to clean them up. I...
I had 5 silkies hatch out recently from a lavender split roo x black hen and the same roo x splash hen. (Only one egg was from the black hen and ended up being a partridge chick) I sold the two partridge chicks that hatched and kept the blues. However I'm wondering if all three are true blues or...
That's what I figured, that I've been saying it wrong this whole time. Problem is, I took on a splash before really researching the color. Lol
I'm actually in the process of working with Lavenders. I want to start my own lines with my lavender split roo and the lavender roo and hen I have...
You could very well be right, I think I refer to her as a blue because her base coloring looks blue with the darker splash of color. Not like a white with black splash of color if that makes sense. I've seen some splash silkies that are almost white with coloring "splashed" in them and I've seen...
Took some more pics of my lavender teens. I'm pretty sure one is a roo, one is a hen and I'm on the fence about the third.
This is the one I'm 95% sure is a hen:
Here is my roo:
This is the one I'm on the fence with:
Here it is again next to the roo: (roo on the right)
My silkies have never been able to live together in harmony with my other chickens. My Orps and BR go after them so they are confined to their coop and large run now. I let them out once in a while but only while I'm home to supervise and make sure no predators take a stab at them since they...
Ok so of my three lavender teen silkies I have, I'm beginning to think all are hens. At what age will begin to develope a comb? Mine are 15 wks. No signs of combs developing, no crowing...now I'm just waiting on eggs....
I read in a genetics thread that a 5-toed Silkie bred to a 4-toed Silkie would produce 100% 5-toed chicks. Is that true?
This is what I read:
four toes silkie X five toes silkie( has two five toes genes or homozygous)= 100 % five toes offspring ( heterozygous or carry a recessive and dominant...
Figured I'd jump over here and ask a question since it has to do with Silkies. I recently had 5 silkies hatch out and was curious as to why 2 of the 5 had one toe without a nail on each foot. (the same toe on each foot) One hatched out with only 4 toes and I'm trying to decide if it would be...
