That's what it looks like. Where did you get your silkies from?

from a family in Loudon NH. i dont remember the name of the farm (or if they had one), they had a ton of chickens. they were relocating to a bigger location. said they arent show quality though, which i dont really mind, im not showing them. i really just have them around for a good laugh everyday =P NPIP certified flock and MG and MS free

like i said, i dont *really* care if they are purebred, but would be nice!

In search of Fertile Silkie bantam Hatching Eggs in Cuckoo Coloration. 12-18 of them preferably, and I thought this might be a good place to post about me looking for some I have silkie/showgirl eggs due to hatch out this up-coming week, but the cuckoo's that I had bought all were duds The P.O did a number on them, and most were scrambled upon arrival or had broken air cells, and neither of the 2 that were "alive" when candled made it past day 14. Oh the joys of shipping hatched eggs lol

can you tell at about 1 to 2 weeks if a silkie is going to be a sizzle or a frizzled silkie? I have one that has the frizzled wings and curious if this was too young to know. I know for sure its not a reguler silkie

The wing feathers start curling at about a week. Roughly the same timing as the tips start opening up

Hi,
I have a question and hope it is appropriate to ask in this thread.
I have long admired this breed but stayed away because I do not extra space for another run/coop.
I recently purchased two silkie chicks as company for a lone chick.
At the time, I thought. I'll just sell them later.......Of course, now they have slipped right into my heart.
Is it possible they would be safe in with my LF chickens....I would not want them to get hurt .
I am thinking when they are full grown of course. I have mostly Orpingtons.

The silkies are likely to take top of the pecking order position once they are adults. Especially with a calm breed like orps.

I like the first picture of your non-silkie. She looks like she's carefully stepping over that rock. What breed is she?

I have one my daughter's freaking out about because she thinks her Cottonball possibly a rooster when she wants a girl. She says it's getting a "roo do."

Here's a picture of the culprit. I don't see it myself, just a unisex chick. Based on top knots, I have two suspected hens, one suspected cockerel and seven showing no sign of gender at all. With my luck those seven will turn out to be boys.

Its weird i have a silkie and a orange chicken that are like the same size and everything...what kind is the orange you have???

Ok so of my three lavender teen silkies I have, I'm beginning to think all are hens. At what age will begin to develope a comb? Mine are 15 wks. No signs of combs developing, no crowing...now I'm just waiting on eggs....

well Im not sure about the age part,but soon you should start to hear crowing if theres a rooster and theres hens around....I hope someone else can help you soon

The silkies are likely to take top of the pecking order position once they are adults. Especially with a calm breed like orps.

I wish my experience was similar. I have 4 standard-size chickens and one in the middle of the pecking order (a Black Sex Links) picks on my two black bantam silkies. They spend most of the day in the coop, chased there whenever they try to go to the run. I'm at the point where I'm going to try to place the silkies with another household to improve their quality of life. Of course, as bantams, they're small in build.. Anyone in the Kent, WA area want a pair?
