Silkie thread!

My silkies have never been able to live together in harmony with my other chickens. My Orps and BR go after them so they are confined to their coop and large run now.

I let them out once in a while but only while I'm home to supervise and make sure no predators take a stab at them since they can't see. LOL

i just picked up 3 silkies and due to past experience, i just want to varify these are purebred and the right genders? i should have 2 hens and a rooster

(sorry the colors in this photo are a little wacky)
Hard to tell genders from these pics, they all look like hens here

they are true silkies but she was right, they are no where near show quality, or breeder quality. They are hatchery birds, cute and funny to watch though and will make great incubators

Can someone chime in on my buffs? They both have thicker/darker butt puff feathers. Does that make them roos?

I am still new to this "figuring out what sex they are" for Silkies, but I believe if you have a "Smutty Buff" cross both the boys and girls have darker tail feathers. However - looking at your pictures I would guess one boy for sure - one I am not sure on. I am looking at their crests. The girls seem to have big fluffy upright and forward tilting crests - the boy's crests seem to be "slicked back".. so far I guessed mine like this earlier on - and they seem to be following this rule.

I made the "Smutty Buff" cross (Partridge x Buff) and I have a boy with darker tail feathers, a girl with darker tail feathers (and partridge lacing in her wings), and a girl with redder all over coloring without darker tail feathers. Not laying yet... but they seem to be correct so far. The boy is getting a wider comb - the girls are not. 6 1/2 weeks old.

Thanks! Smutty is fine by me as long as it doesn't crow! The bigger one I'm thinking is a roo, but neither have combs yet, and they are over 3mo.

Definitely PQ. Almost no foot/leg feathers, poor type, giraffe necks, small crests, pointy tails, not very fluffy.
