Wondering how many of ya'll went to the swap in Frostproof this morning? We went without the intentions of buying but fell head over heels in love with 2 Salmon Favorolle hens and a 3/4 silkie ~ 1/4 Polish cross! The Polish cross is our favorite hands down and already love her! We've named her...
OMG! I LOVE your coop! Where did you find chicken wire that's so tall??
I'm hoping that they will play nicely with each other because we like them both so much.
Do I need to seperate the rooster from each other? At what age? They are only a month old. I wanted chickens for eggs, at least these chickens for eggs to eat. They're Leghorns. We want other breeds to hatch eggs with just not these.
I am so bummed! We have 2 roos :( 1 is my dauthers and the other is my sons and my's favorite bird! I don't know what to do. How does a Mother choose which of their kid's heart to break?
I've never been to any but the one in Highland City because that feed store is where I buy my horse feed. They are the closest to me that sells TC Complete besides Lonesome Dove but that's a 25 minute drive from my house.
The only thing I've figured out is Lonesome Dove is the first Saturday and Highland City is the last Saturday. They post it on the Kickin Chicken Facebook page and on Craigslist. I don't know if/where tomorrows is being held.
* Just found on Craigslist that tomorrows is in Plant City. Next...
Has anyone ever ordered from Strombergs? They have 2 breeds that I want though I am leary of them due to a no live guarantee! Plus how high of quality of Crevecouer and Russian Orloff come from a hatchery?
In a few more months I'd be interested. Right now I need to get my chicks big enough to go into the run and build a coop for them. Once the small holding pen is empty, I'll be looking for a few breeds to add to my flock :)
This is my attempt at controlling Chicken Math :D
Thanks I will!
Also ~ Just wanted to let everyone I found a solution to my feed tipping chicks. I found my old metal tray and they can't scratch the feed and haven't tipped it over yet! Almost 12 hrs and no mess :D
I haven't even started looking into duck breeds mainly because we don't have anywhere to put them. I got lucky and bought a pen for the chicks at the last swap and now am waiting to expand that pen first. DH loves ducks! He wants some for our future pond :)
Me? Yes to start with though I have seen some pheasant I'd love to have! I don't think I'll ever get anymore quails, too flighty for my liking :) I'm not opposed to peafowls or ducks though my neighbors my not be impressed with rare peafowls in their yard!
Anyone breed rare breeds? And by that I mean actual rare breeds not the hatchery rare breed list? I thought it would be sort of interesting and fun to try to raise at least 3 of the rare/endangered breeds.
I tried placing on wood, didn't work. My little buggers have made it their daily challenge. I am no longer filling it halfway. If anything I just pour a cup full into the dish instead of unscrewinf the jar and filling it. I'll try hanging it and see if that helps.
Anyone have tips to keep your chicks from knocking over their feeder? I tried a rock but worried it would fall on one since the love to sit up there! I can fill their feeder then 2 hrs later its everywhere and they won't eat it! It's driving me bonkers! That and the heat is making their pen...
Hey everyone!
I haven't been on in a few weeks but I have a suprise!
We are now the proud family of 6 White Leghorns and 2 Quails!
Took the kids to the swap in Highlands City and boy was that a mistake :) They fell in love with the chicks so I got the whole bunch....chicken math :) Bought an...
That is the exact thing I want! If only they weren't so darn pricey. I had been saving my pennies to get one but then the dang drought came, hay prices skyrocketed and I had to pay an arm and a leg for round bales for my horses. I have been hunting on Craigslist for a smallish one but people...
