I store mine in the fridge also so they last longer. I crack them into a bowl before adding them to a pan or recipe and if one looks off I dump it in the trash, that way it's just 1 egg in the bowl at a time instead of ruining a recipe.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but aren't they still pullets until they are 1 yr old?

That's about the same setup I have but I use plastic egg cartons that I numbered instead of bins so we eat the oldest eggs first and I shuffle them all forward to carton 1, 2, 3 etc once a week.

I started out rinsing them before using them to keep the bloom on during storage but lately I found myself forgetting to rinse unless they have a smudge than I do. I think it's a habit from never washing store bought eggs all my life, I don't even realize it until after they're in the pan. I...

I have a designated carton for the chickens, they are the dirtiest eggs that I recycle back to them rather than waste them. I don't get a whole lot of dirty eggs but it works with no extra expense.

There are some feathers out there but I also have some birds going through their juvenile molt and I can tell these loose feathers are coming from them. My rooster has just lost all his long tail feathers within the last few days but otherwise I don't see anything else from the mature ones so...

I've been finding lots of these around my yard, they are western spotted orb weaver spiders. They just appeared one weekend in August after a storm. They are harmless but larger than black widows and make huge webs, here's one in my gardenI asked my husband to remove the majority of them cause...

It's been a while since I've posted here, I was curious if your flocks here in AZ have started their fall molt yet and if not when do they typically start? Mine haven't started yet and this fall will be their first molt, I expect it can start any time now and being that we're all in the same...

We have a sheet of plywood on the ground to keep the squirrels out, we eventually plan to pour concrete or lay pavers cause the wood will break down faster sitting directly on the dirt so raising it just enough to get it off the dirt will make the floor wood last longer, we we're limited with...

Does anyone know if there are any new fires since Friday? I'm not finding anything. A few nights ago we saw orange in the night sky down near the Mexico border, looked similar to when fire reflects off the clouds and since then there's been a haze in the sky and we're all sneezing with stuffy...

Is anyone else in AZ having fly swarms since all this rain started? I know from trips out, all of Tucson is having swarms so it's not just me. What do you do about them? I've tried putting out various types of traps but the just keep coming. I sprayed the coop with permethrin but I don't hardly...

They are interesting little critters, every new bug I come across I look up what they are, life cycles, if they're dangerous etc. They aren't scary when you learn about them, I don't recommend handling anything but for the most part if you leave it alone they don't bother you with most things...

I thought so too but after learning that human meat is fda certified vegan, I'll never look at "meat" substitutes the same, still can't bring myself to eat fast food either after reading a news article of human remains found in burger patties in a refrigerated truck on its way to a McDonald's or...

My dh has told my of all the ones he comes across at work and picks them up, scares the crap out of his crew mates before putting them under a bush, I'd never seen one in person before this. They are nocturnal so that's probably why I never see them. We have lots of small holes in the yard...
