Here they are at 6 days old. To further confuse the issue, I got my chicks & pics mixed up in my original post & actually had no pics of Chick # 5 in it (Those were actually Chick #8 ).
This is Chick # 5 in the front – Blackest legs & feet, least amount of white on feathers, most ridgey beak...
Thank you, Ron. Should I repost pics every week or so? It's important to me because I have a special name picked out for the Australorp...Cuz I'm silly like that...
Hi all, I received my Black Australorp (supposed to be female) chick from Meyer Hatchery on Tuesday. The problem is, I also received a Black Orpington & Black Jersey Giant. I'm having a really difficult time figuring out which chick is which breed (note to self: order mixed colors next time...
Well...This will be my 1st hatch attempt...plus, I couldn't decide on breeds...just so many good ones! So I ordered 2 each of the Australorps, Buff Orpington, Speckled Sussex, Rhode Island Reds, & Barred Rocks, + 4 Easter Eggers & 1 assorted Bantam...My poor DH is feeling like I've gone cuckoo...
i have read that letting them roost on the 4" side of the board is preferable, for foot stability & health. Also, in cold winters, all of their foot will be covered with feathers on a roost this wide preventing frost bite.
Hey, maybe all you Australorpians can help me out. I'm in the process of designing my coop, and I want to make sure I don't put the roosts or nesting boxes too high because of the heavy-bodied breeds I'll have such as the Buff Orpington and Australorp. I read that Bumblefoot is a common problem...
thank u 4 the welcome :). We have 7 day olds right now; (3) polish, a wyandotte, and a cochin. On 7/10 we will receive (2) easter eggers, a barred rock, the australorp, a buff orpington, and a welsummer. I couldn't choose, and i want each of these breeds for specific traits they're known for.
