Australorps breed Thread

Oh yes, Styrofoam must be very tasty to them!

The trick is that the food has to make them a bit sick and then they learn from it. Most of their little brain is geared to food so it is their biggest motivator and one of the things they remember better.

I am their food provider and the bearer of treats so they like me, sometimes a bit too much....It is hard to walk through the layer yard without stepping on them.

Haha! Mine adore styrofoam!
apparently, ingestion of Styrofoam leads to the body converting it into estrogen, so people used to feed it to their layers to boost egg production/maturity.

Someone had chickens die from eating styrofoam. There must be a more toxic version. There may have been a glue or something there though.

Only two eggs?

I would get a least a dozen. Two Dozen would be more like it but then I am a hatch a holic.....
Well...This will be my 1st hatch attempt...plus, I couldn't decide on breeds...just so many good ones! So I ordered 2 each of the Australorps, Buff Orpington, Speckled Sussex, Rhode Island Reds, & Barred Rocks, + 4 Easter Eggers & 1 assorted Bantam...My poor DH is feeling like I've gone cuckoo for chickens!
