Thank you all for your suggestions - as I said, we did already have the fake eggs in there.
anyhow, to cut a long story short, we were still having no luck, so on Saturday we made them a totally new nest box set out of an old bedside cabinet, the girls checked it out thoroughly, laid on the coop...
Our first egg was outside just sitting in the middle of the grass, the rest have just been randomly laid on the coop floor.
They have been checking out the nest box for over a week, climbing in and out easily, but then just sit on top of it, never actually lay in it.
These are my first ever...
My second pullets laid her first egg today!!
Any tips on how to get them to lay in the nest box tho?? So far they have just been laid on the floor of the coop...?
I have a fake egg in it so other than that...??
TIA

The other 2 pullets and 1 of the roosters (I think)

Haha - I'm never up early enough to SEE who is doing the crowing, only happens @ 5am (yuck) when we hear someone else's crowing start up

Also, one of my pullets (Please - she must be a pullet) face& crown have started...
Thanks so much for that info birdrain,
I just checked the bag and it said 20% protein. Is this a too higher percentage for 10wk old birds?

Oh and I forgot to make clear - I am in Australia (dunno if that would make any difference to the tail shape?)
We just got some fertile eggs which were guaranteed pure black Australorps, and hatched them in a bator for...
