    I also noticed today that their eyes are not dark like BAs but seem to be more greenish/brown. They're outside now-finally & I can get a better look at their characteristics. Guess I need to keep looking for some BAs!:)

    Good to know. I got these chicks from Aubuchon Hardware & they were from an order of 200 chicks from McMurray. The store got them at a discount because they were various breeds of cancelled chick orders. The clerks had no idea what they had & no list of what they could be but I took a chance...

    This is a picture of 2 chicks I selected hoping that they are Black Australorps. Thoughts? And: does it look like one might be a cockerel? We can't have roosters where I live.:( They are about 5 weeks old.

    I have a Blue Australorp chick and was wondering how you knew it was a cockerel that young. Mine is about 8 wks old and I'm pretty positive it's a cockerel, now.

    I'm just wondering: I have one Black Australorp in my flock and from what I've read, are really good layers. She is about 22 weeks old. Should I expect an egg from her any day, now, or do they tend to start a little older, than average? I've noticed her laying down outside in their run...
