So today my australorp pullet jumped on one of my other pullets backs and grabbed the feathers on the back of her head. Do some pullets do that? Is she just figuring out pecking order or is she a really late bloomer. She is 24 weeks old. Pretty small comb.

So I'm a little confused by my Australorp. Let me first say she is a hatchery bird so not up to show quality I'm sure. She is 17 weeks old. And all along people have been telling me she's a pullet. She is the smallest of my flock all the same age. And very little comb development. But...

LOL maybe mine isn't zn Australorp! She is littlest and just calmly fearless. Not top bird but usually the first to try new things and least concerned about being handled. She is only 4 months old so not laying yet. But I constantly havd to boot her out of the nesting boxes at bedtime!

My hatchery australorp is a sweetie. She does not go out of her way to be friendly but is less scared of most things than others so easier to pick up. Once picked up is happy to hang out. She's good with the other breed pullets that I have. Solidly middle in ranking.

Ok Australorp Experts!! All along I've been thinking this was a pullet. "She" is a hatchery bird, sexed as a pullet. She is a few days short of 10 weeks. Now I'm wondering. Are those the beginning of saddle feathers? Her comb is small but has just in the last day or so turned a little...
