I would say wait and see. With this breed it is way to early to tell. Splash confuses me too. This is a DD ( double dilute).

Does she have opportunity to dust bathe? It may be a juvenile molt going on.

Your chick has sprigs. It is a single comb, but with sprigs. To have sprigs this early is unusual in my experience.

It is always difficult to guess with them, which is part of the fun. Is #2 crested? I love the blue in #3. Mine usually have more white on them than #1. These are pictures of my Spoticus and what he turned out to look like.

Some chicks that hatched yesterday. The majority are SFHs. There are a few silver AMs, Frisian and silverudd’s in the group. These have the most variety of colors I have had.

I would lay them on their side aircell pointed up. You might try to determine who laid those eggs and not use her next time. I had a leghorn that always laid eggs with a lateral air cell. Makes me think it is genetic.

I'm in Tennessee on a hill. We had about 5 inches of rain from Harvey, but things are drying out now. Prayers for all of you experiencing bad weather. I have friends in MT and they are having a terrible fire season too. IDK if you can prepare for a cat 5 hurricane. Probably best to pack...

I don't know of anyone that separates by color either. When you hatch SFH they are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you will get. In 2 of my pens I have a Snoleopard rooster and either a black or blue rooster over Blue, black, splash and Snoleopard Hens. What I separate by are...

A pretty renowned breeder told me that this is the best time of year to hatch. Your spring birds will be ready to lay.

Since Greenfire Farms originally imported SFH's, they all originated from them in several different imports. They are importers, not breeders. That is with the exception of the German line, which Dale Fisher imported privately. I have stock from 7 different breeders including my own. Each...

Both of them may have full wings. I think it is 9 months before you can be positive about split wing and it isn't tremendously common.

Since they are young, don't be too quick to judge that the split wing is permanent. Some of them pass through a phase of appearing to be split wing, but all the flight feathers grow in as they mature. I think they should be able to handle 2 1/2 feet easily. Mine can hop way too well! Watch to...
