What do you all think of this girl, September 15th hatch date. I'm pleased to have one with more copper, especially since her eyes decided to lighten up. sorry the pics are so bad.
The picture is a bit blurry, from what I see, looks like pullet, cockerel, second pic seems to show yellow in the legs which you do not want. Ideally, they would have feathered shanks and outside toe.
ETA: OOPS! Second pic looks like a 'he', lighter color, saddle feathers, sorry!
This is my son's BCMs Cockerel being shown in New York this weekend. This was the only somewhat clear picture of the bird, I did however, find 15 clear pictures of the cage card! Silly boy. His hackles could use some color improvement, any idea how I fix that without bringing in faults from...
Well thank you, Miss! I am way worried about the yellow fluff and sparse leg feathering. Bought these eggs to darken up my egg clor, now I'm having doubts about entering any new birds.
Hello PEEPS!! Just hatched out some new babies, not from my birds. They are BCMarans, and the feet n legs are looking a bit YELLOW to me, not to mentioned the white tipped wings and yellow?? fluff? What do you all think?
Austinfarm, I notice that my Marans Roos are 'Randy' well before their same age pullets are laying or even squatting. My 20 week old Marans Cockerel is in the layer pen and breeding some of the pullets a little lower in the pecking order, the hens are not letting him, but I think that soon will...
My White Marans has decided to give me an Egg. Here they are:
So the left 2 eggs are from her, her first 2. The Right egg is from my BCMs coop, they've decided to start laying again as well. I find it odd that they are the same color. Apparently my BCMs are laying way too light.
Where are you? Have you posted on your state's thread? If you don't mind having them shipped, you can get eggs from good lines here, on the 'buy hatching eggs' thread.
You could post pictures on this thread. There are many very knowledgable people here who can point out the different aspects of the breed that your bird has OR lacks. Her egg color is going to be a big clue. She needs to lay a 4 or darker to be considered a Marans.
Small world! Our elementary school, bank n super market are all in Kennett Square (aka Mushroom Capitol of the World). We live just a smidge North of there. : )
The wind is unbelievable here. Lost a 4 ft diameter glass table top that was weighted. Smashed to pieces on my deck. I will be cleaning up those tiny pieces of glass for the next year…at least. To do list for tomorrow: Find Trampoline.
