I just hatched a wheaten Marans chick. It was born with black in the wing area. It is only 3 days old. Is this normal for males and females, or will this be the male? No feathers yet, just black ...I don't know what you call them....wing bones??? Anyway, just wondering.
So here is my 3rd generation OE roo. What do you think of his looks as a part-Marans? He is 7 months old. Sorry about the blurry pics. He was chasing raisins my husband was throwing to him. Just thought I would share the pics. He was suppose to be a she... wonder what color eggs his...
Hey, my daughter just told me a friend of hers from college wrote a cute children's book about hatching chickens so I downloaded it to my Kindle Fire. It was wonderful and accurate! It's called Samantha Hatches the Chicken Egg by Daisy Griffin. If you have kids or grandkids, this is a great...
Yea, it looks a lot like my brown leghorn but not even a good specimen of brown leghorn!!! I hate that, too. I looked at an add from craigs list one day about Ameraucana's and the pictures were, of course easter eggers and something that was so mixed up, I can't even describe it!! Also, she...
So, my EE started laying last Saturday. Like I said, I was a little disappointed that the eggs weren't blue or green. They are a light pale pink and they are really small....BUT, she has laid an egg every day since! 7 eggs in 7 days! wow! So, i have 4 more chickens who are 23 + weeks old...
I need to ask some of you experts for some information. My 16 week old pullet started limping last week. She is now, "down on her hocks".. Do any of you know what is wrong with her and if there is anything I can do for her? I have her in isolation right now. It started with one leg and it...
Hey DMRippy, there is a lady in Ellijay, GA who is really really wantin some EE pullets. She has posted it on "Wanted" on BYC. If you can't find it, let me know. I think I can find her. She lives close to me. How old are your EE, Olive Eggers. I may be interested in a few, too.
Thanks. I am sooooo undecided about keeping my roo. I really only wanted laying hens. Not sure I want to "look over my shoulder" with a roo in the yard, or deal with feathers missing from my beautiful girls, and stuff like that. But, I raised him since he was 3 days old and I kind of hate...
ok, I have a few questions for all you who do breeding. I have a third generation olive egger roo. (He was suppose to be a pullet) That's my luck. The 1st generation was BCM to Ameraucana. Those chicks were bred back to an unrelated BCM. Those chicks were again bred back to a BCM. He was...
ok, I have learned something very important today. DO NOT WEAR SANDLES OUTSIDE WITH YOUR CHICKENS IF YOU JUST PAINTED YOUR TOENAILS RED!!! Hahaha! I had to do some quick dancing to get back in the house with my toes intact!!
You guys have been answering a lot of my questions about incubators, etc. More questions. Some of you go on and on about hatching more and more eggs. What on earth do you do with all those chicks? Are you all in business selling chicks? I would like to get just a few special chicks (Cream...
Could anyone give me the name of a good incubator? I am thinking about hatching eggs. I have never done it before. Would like a good one but not overly big. Maybe 24-30 egg capacity. Would like one that is pretty much automated to do all the turning, etc. Thanks for any recommendations.
Most states/county have programs that offer free or greatly reduced spade/neuturing. Check into it. We only paid $25 for our Mastiff and that was considered a "donation".
This is my pet yard snake, Samantha. She is a 5 foot black rat snake and has lived in my back yard for the past two years. She does like to come out and watch my chickens, but I tell her they are not for her, and so far she hasn't made an attempt to get them. She usually comes out when I am...
ok, so I posted pictures of this chicken about a week ago and 7 people said roo. Then a few days ago, someone posted pictures of a chicken looking almost just like mine and mentioned that they thought it was a roo, too until she laid eggs. They said her pullet had big beefy legs (like mine...
Question about your ducks. Don't they all fly away when they are bigger? I live on a lake and we have geese and ducks (wild ones) who have their babies here. We watch them raise and train them. It's incredible how they train them! Like watching school. They all get in a circle, then the...
Arielle, another good book to read is Master Your Metabolism by Jillian Michaels. It is all about the processed food and the genetically modified grains out there. Corn is another GMO food that is causing a lot of problems like man boobs....too much estrogen in the grain! She says our bodies...
