My blue copper is 4 weeks old. She is just as sweet as can be- a pleasant surprise after my gcm became the bully of the flock. From Secret Hills Ranch in Alpine, CA.
She's been the slowest-growing of this batch, which includes olive eggers, Bielefelders, and Rhodebars.
I'm pretty confident...
Blue does hatch 25% black... if you're really set on having blues, you should double check the hatchery's information to make sure they send blues that hatch blue, not just chicks that hatch from blue eggs.
Oooh... interesting... I'll try that when we start with food again. Maybe some diced cucumber tossed in turmeric. She did have a few paper-shelled eggs, which is I think where the problem started. At first, I tried giving her an egg with a crushed Tums every day. That solved the egg...
I can! Do you think I can just mix it with her water? I'm keeping her off solid foods for a few days - she insists on laying, and the prolapse recurs when she poops, so I'm hoping a few days of bowel rest will help.
I just added a blue copper to my flock! (Meanwhile, my poor GCM is working on healing a prolapsed vent... advice and well wishes appreciated).
cute chick pics!
my GCM surprised me! She laid this egg (on the right) late yesterday; I found it cold in the nest first thing this morning. The egg on the right is from my welsummer.
It's 47g, and the poor thing had a prolapsed vent this morning. I fixed her up, and will be watching for relapses for the rest...
4 ladies at 29 weeks, only one is laying. BUT she gives us an egg every single day.
I expect eggs from my newest girls, including my GCM, in March-May.
