I've never hatched my Maran eggs any differently than I have all my other eggs. The only difference is that they are difficult to candle. Some people do not even try to candle them. But besides that, I really have not noticed any difference.
Are Cuckoo Marans a dominant breed? I have a brooder with three Silver Ameraucanas, one EE, and eight Cuckoo Marans. The Marans seem to be mean and very dominant. They will corner the other breeds and while standing in a semicircle, start to peck the other chicks. At first I thought they...
I am hatching out my first set of Cuckoo Marans eggs. Although the eggs are still dark, I notice they are lighter than the FBCMs. I'm wondering if I would be able to candle these. Has anyone been able to candle Cuckoo Maraans?

Mine is the sweetest thing in front of my husband. Even puts his head down so he will pet it. It's just the rest of us he's mean to.
And I don't blame your babies for being freaked out. I would be too. That is scary.
Bravo,
I'm so sorry. That's horrible. The only one I have that even comes close to fitting the bill (have to check though as I think he has Davis lines) is a meanie. If I can't breed him, dh is thinking of keeping it as his personal pet though. They've become close friends.

Good Morning Everyone,
I posted in "Managing Your Flock" and no one answered. I then thought about it and realized I should have posted it here since you would have more experience in this particular question. I'm not sure if I am allowed to re-post the same question, so I will just give the...
