Today the lead hen, Daisy Mae, pecked him on the head and turned and walked away. As soon as she turned her back, HP ran up and yanked FIVE feathers out of her tail!! I was stunned!! And he was strutting...
They still chase him round and round the chicken tractor. He hides on the roost from...
Boy, the post office SERIOUSLY discourages shipping live chickens! Either that, or I caught them on a grumpy day...
Poor guy IS way too cute for soup!
I just can't do that to him.
But I do have to find a solution soon, as the hens are STILL abusing the poor little guy. I think I'll have to pull...
Poor guy definitely needs a new home.
I felt guilty leaving him in a cage, all alone, even though he didn't seem too stressed about it. Well, then hens REALLY gave him a hard time. He bowed down to the top roo when challenged, though, and after that Meester let HP hide behind him when the hens...
From what I've read, there's no real guarantee he'll STAY quiet, though. Once he gets well and truly away from our dominant roo (also a Silkie and a very LOUD one), HP may find his 'voice'.
But for now he's living alone in a cage in the garage, murmuring at us as we come and go. We set the cage...
I'm not sure about shipping, but I'm going to investigate. I think it's quite expensive, and I know it's stressful on the bird.
But I'd rather take a chance on shipping him than seeing him eaten. Sooo....
Thanks.
I'm praying we do find him a home because we can't keep him where he's at.
The only offer I've had for him is from someone who wants to eat him! I'm not against eating extra roos, but he's just so sweet and harmless that I don't want to see him slaughtered.
Thanks! I wish you could, too. He's really sweet.
I'm hoping the fact that he's never shown the slightest interest in crowing will help find him a home. A quiet roo is a good thing, right?
We have a VERY dominant blue Silkie roo who is abusing this little guy. He's very sweet and dopey. Been bathed and blown dry and loved it.
Would be happy to deliver within 30 minutes of Knoxville, or meet someone part way.
This little guy does not crow at all, and is a year old as of...
