Who is the breeder? Just wondering if it's anyone I've heard of.

It's probably a splash, which I think would mean that your rooster is not pure black. As in I believe that the rooster also has blue. Not necessarily a bad thing.

She looks a little downtrodden in the picture but since I posted that I put her in my brooder pen with a bunch of 1 and 2 week old crested cream legbars, we'll see if she perks up for a couple weeks before the little ones pass her up again. She can be the big shot for a while. lol

Thanks, I'm not gonna panic by any means because there are a lot of variables involved here. This is just one chick out of about a hundred, and some of the eggs I hatched were just random eggs from my general egg laying flock which had several roosters in play that are not part of my breeding...

I really don't know what I've got here, but this poor girl hatched from a bcm regular sized egg. I started to notice that she was smaller than the rest of her siblings at about 3 weeks, by 6 weeks she was only half the size of the rest, and at that time I moved her to a group of 4 week olds that...

I'm of the understanding that welsummers are known for dark speckled eggs. I believe that some breeders may have crossed welsummers with some not so dark laying marans to try to get darker laying marans. I have marans from two different blood lines that one line lays dark even colored eggs while...

Here's a couple better pictures of the lavender orpington crossed to black copper marans. He's dropped pretty low in the pecking order because of all the excess roosters in this pen,and he is a bit beat up and he was trying to hide while I was taking the last picture. This weekend there are...

I know greenfire is a little pricey, but I bought mine from them through rare breed auction at about half of their normal price last year. I haven't seen them offered on the auction site lately, so they're likely selling all they have available right from the farm. If you're not in a hurry for...

Here's a picture of some eggs from some bcms from greenfire, they may be a little lighter color from washing them. I really like these birds, when they started laying, they were large to jumbo and quickly went to consistently extra large and jumbo, averaging 70 to 80 grams, and nicely shaped...

Those are crested cream legbar roosters from greenfire in the background. I have about 30 roosters that people wanted me to save for the Chinese new year last fall and I ended up wintering them. They should be in the freezer!

The first pic are a couple of roos from wade Jeanne / bev Davis / and greenfire, and the second one is pure greenfire. Some of them are a little frostbit on their combs from a cold snap here in Wisconsin. I seem to like the two in the first pic better than the greenfire bird. They don't have...

I have black and blue marans, but this one is much lighter than the blues. I was surprised that he had the leg feathering coming from a lavender orpington father.

I was wondering if there is such a thing as a lavender marans, I have this rooster that came from a bcm egg, it has well feathered legs, but the color looks more like lavender than blue. I believe it was a cross between a lavender orpington roo over a black copper hen. Any thoughts or comments...

I have several bcm's from a blue roo and black hens, this is a picture of one of the offspring. He is a blue roo with an unusual comb. I don't plan to use him for breeding, but I would like some opinions of what I should call this comb type.

Here's a couple pics of one of my blue copper marans, possibly crossed with a blue ameraucana. I don't know if there's a name for it, but I'm calling it a crown comb. Seems very unusual but I think it's really cool. [/IMG][/IMG]
