I want to buy some maran chicks but I want a dark egg laying maran and I'm in jacksonville fl I would like to get some chicks but I want them to lay dark eggs for a project and to add to my flock so do yall know any good breeders around my area thanks in advance
IF the blue chick is a pullet I bet you can separate her when they start to lay and the egg color will be so different. Once you figure out HER egg color you could put her back in the flock with the BCM roo and hatch the eggs separate. Did that make any sense?I didn't order blue, but I'm not opposed to it, either. I'm glad to know that there needs to be a distinction made when selling if you are running both colors together. I don't like to be dishonest about my birds
I know exactly what you are saying, and I hope that is as easy as it sounds. It would be perfectIF the blue chick is a pullet I bet you can separate her when they start to lay and the egg color will be so different. Once you figure out HER egg color you could put her back in the flock with the BCM roo and hatch the eggs separate. Did that make any sense?
Those are nice looking birds RooBoo....
I have never heard of lavender... I had a bird that was supposed to be a Blue Copper that was sort of lavenderish.... (is that a word?)... But I was not confident it was a pure Marans and I gave it away. It was a nice looking bird. I have seen and heard of Lavender Orpingtons... But I have never heard of a lavender colored Marans and I don't believe they are listed on the French site. There is a mention of it on the American site. http://www.maransofamericaclub.com/blue-varieties.html I had never heard of it but that doesn't mean much....
Just moved the 4 week olds to the grow out pen. Definitely 2 boys and 11 girls. The one I suspect is blue has sprouted a couple of copper feathers, so if she is blue, she's blue copperIF the blue chick is a pullet I bet you can separate her when they start to lay and the egg color will be so different.
