itthelaw- I am sorry you lost one of your chickens. I think it does get easier the longer you have chickens (at least it has for me). I am still saddened by the loss but not devastated like in the beginning. Also I am glad to here Taz is doing well. It sounds like he has some good...

Please do not be discouraged by events that transpired recently. We are a friendly group, try to offer our opinions based on our own experiences, encourage one another and enjoy communicating with other people in our area. We all have different ways of doing things and I for one do not feel my...

I have clipped wings in the past and also think it looks bad. The reason I did it was to try and protect mine from predators because they would fly out during the day while I was at work. We have woods on 2 sides of our property with foxes, hawks, raccoons, etc. I also think some are just...

I found a home for my extra cockerels. I thought I was going to have to do some "drive by roostering" but it didn't come to that. I will be getting rid of some of my old hens come spring. I think I have found someone who will put them in their freezer. Hope everyone has a good weekend!

I feel like I am in scholl again! lol The only reason I questioned this is because I researched BCM when I got my mixes. So now I went back to verify what I thought and found these links that may help clear things up. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_determines_the_color_of_an_egg_shell...

I thought the color added was only on certain breeds, ie. BCM for one. Their eggs are dark but you can wash the color off where as say a Welsummer's eggs are dark but its in the shell not a coating. ETA: some of my EEs have eggs with colored shells all the way through, some not. So I guess...

Hi and welcome! I can't help you either but I may have some EEs come spring. I think some on here have several of the breeds you are wanting. Good luck.

I don't feed raw or cooked diet to mine but I do try to choose the best premium food I can afford. IMO if you are feeding Ol' Roy or most Purina foods you may as well buy a bag of scratch corn & put it down for your dogs. I like this site to compare dog foods: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/...

TNBarnQueen- It was originally stage IV throat cancer which had spread to his lymph nodes & thyroid. I too wish it had been thyroid cancer as the 5 year survival rate is much higher. thanks for the prayers

Hi everyone this is not chicken related so I hope you don't mind. My cousin (who is like a sister to me) and her husband are going Wednesday for results of his PET scan. He was diagnosed back in the early Summer with stage IV throat cancer. This is his first scan results since finishing...

I do not know as much as many on here but I will throw out my opinion on integrating varying age groups or just adding to your flock. In my experience with adults always add more than one to the flock so the new one is not bullied as badly. When it comes to babies or young ones its best if...

Redbudchix- & welcome to our little corner of byc. I am sure someone on here can help you find some of the breeds you are interested in. There will be a show in the Spring in Newport and probably in Knoxville also. I do not breed or sell anything at this time and doubt that I will. IMHO...
