Fear not you are not alone. Wait until you try breeding odd concoctions then your getting bad( as me ) I mean totally on purpose. Not just BYM everything and hope you get a bird not a Jackalope.

I just had like every duck eggs I have hatched this year pip on BOTTOM. and left them. The ones that pipped all made it out ok.

Close to 100 for me. Not counting the 40+ chicks hatched already and 7 ducks. I have been enabled and/or ordered to so since its not ALL my fault I feel ok.

Looks to me you get what they give you. And the "project crosses" can be anything or just plain BYM. Not like you have a bird to compare them to. The guarantee of 4 other breeds seems like a way to swap in the BYM's and after they hatch they can say Yep that's the X project. And the last...

Is its an improvement on IA if I actually turned down the offer of a new incubator? I was semi offered by wife but said I will make due with what I have. Every time I tell her I have X chicks/ducks hatch she's happy. I don't think she realizes I can hatch over 200 at 1 time with my current set...

Ducks finished now my BYM & BA's are starting. 1 black BYM out when I checked this AM. Need to shuffle some birds so I can promote older chicks to outside brooder, and make room in brooders for the new arrivals. I have time though... Like a day.

They will most of the time protect chicks, although aggression of the flock would determine how successful she is. If its 1 bird being aggressive it should be simple, if its more than a couple working together (They do this) then it could cause issues with the broody and chicks. As long as the...

That's generally best. Some of us shuffle eggs when we shouldn't. It can effect hatch, or it can be ok. I break rules that shouldn't be. Some people follow all the tried and true rules. Success and failure are part of learning. When someone finds a way to be successful 100% of the time let me...

I have the same set up that I move broody to a week before expected hatch. Saves a little stress on me and them I think. When chicks start venturing out of this I allow all of them out. Generally takes a few days to a week. And as for the 1st part of your statement it is so true. Maybe that's...

LOL I do. My Home made incubator has 2 shelves currently that each hold 70-80 eggs. I could add more shelves But shuffling 2 drawers, just the top 1 really, is annoying as it is. Wish girls would get above where they are on production, I know we all do, but would absolutely love to fill bator...

Finished my hatch for 5-9 and ended with a neat looking bunch of chicks. Not all meat birds that I had thought. A couple oddballs snuck in somehow but no complaints End count 14 eggs set, 1 clear pulled at D10 10 live chicks, 1 external pip but quit and 2 failed to pip. 1 bird is 3/4 BA-1/4 WLH...

Take # eggs fertile divide by the # set. For fertility. For hatchability take those hatched divide by those that hatched. Some people only count chicks that completely hatch not just pipped. Its up to person. What ever your looking for in percent divide smaller # by larger number. I hate math...

Nice bird, looks like he/she might have some attitude. I have 6 BYM x CX chicks hatched so far (50% hatch rate but not done yet.) And more pips. And 1 duck is externally piped and a couple more starting I think. These are an important milestone for me and need to see how well they do for meat...

Oddly it always feels great falling of this wagon. I just set 62 eggs from my breed pens and have BYM x CX hatching now. Ducks are due and the 1st BA I set. Have batches due from now for 3 weeks to come. And will probably be setting weekly for awhile yet. Best part of here your never alone...

Are your chicks BYM? Some anyway. You could do BO or RIR x BPR if you have the breeds and sell sex links. The hit however would be on males would probably have to be extra cheap if at all, the downside of sex linking. You may just do better with SR pure if there is a market for them, I know Ebay...

Well back home and everyone settled in. The lone chick was all that hatched, healthy looking just solo. A 2nd was on it's way out but didn't make it. Quick cleaning of that bator and shifted the duck eggs over since they due next. Meat eggs still looking good, as well as next batch of duck eggs...

A little giant would work just fine. I have 2 still air LG's and use as incubator/hatcher every year. Had to replace a thermostat in 1 after a few years. Both working fine still. Just as with any styro cleaning can be annoying.

Patience pays off. Just checked and I heard a tick tick tick...... and after some diligent searching I see...... the 1st crack forming on an egg. What breeds inside could be a serious mix. collected from general flock. Which consist of (Roosters) BA, BSL (BA x BPR) Austra-white. And (Hens) BPR...
