Incubators Anonymous

Well back home and everyone settled in.
The lone chick was all that hatched, healthy looking just solo. A 2nd was on it's way out but didn't make it. Quick cleaning of that bator and shifted the duck eggs over since they due next.
Meat eggs still looking good, as well as next batch of duck eggs. Along with all the chicken eggs.

I am trying rice mixed in with compressed alpha rounds and I have to put it in a bucket and add the rice after I cook it for fifteen minutes then it sits in the bucket for three days before I feed it to the chickens and I need to fill up the big pan three times a day and a twenty pound feeder full of corn sits in the corner but mu five gallon waterier needs to be filled about every 40 hours and I have three trough's that need to be filled twice a day as the ducks and geese get it dirty or splash it out but I only have

7 geese

4 ducks

3 guinea

35 chickens

How do you prepare your rice before feeding your livestock ???

I actually use rice bran - its the stuff removed from brown rice to make white rice.

Rice bran is the vitamin-rich outer layer that surrounds the endosperm of whole grain brown rice. While comprising just 8% of total weight, rice bran (which includes the germ) accounts for 60% of the nutrients.
found in each rice kernel.

Its protein level is around 14%

I boost it with a little animal protein in the form of fish meal - based on protein and lysiene requirements of my animals.

With the addition of a good vitamin and electrolyte pre-mix I save around 40-60% on buying mill made feed.

@JekkaLynn : I had some eggs break, some sellers sent extras, one more box coming today, all in all I estimate about 55 hitting the incubator. Which is too much for my egg turner so guess I'm doing it the Old Fashioned way & turning by hand!

@ozexpat : 14 boxes to an apartment!?! Haha now I don't feel so bad. When DH complains about my chicken addiction I will show him your post

Thank you! Its together but I'm needing to read the instructions again on the thermostat. Trying at midnight didn't help, lol.
The wood on the front door is cracked where the hinge attaches. Its useable for now but over time will most likely expand. It looks like one of the screws was put in at an angle and caused it or the hole was not pre-drilled. I sent an email off to him last night.
Getting eggs in the mail on Monday and hoping to set these along with some of my own on Tuesday.
