My dads dead and gone so won't no harm come of it -- that-there line between the two was, at times, mighty thin. Not to say we didn't deserve it. We was three country boys and bout bad as they come. Daddy did have a good heart and, believe it or not, the things people remember him by was his...

Don't waste it -- . . . Refer to 70's issues of Mother Earth News and you will find that bird fat is THE favorite for making bread. Sure you can use it for lamp oil and soap, but my favorite is still in breadmaking. The texture of the bread becomes more fine and the flavor is enhanced . . . ...

I wonder if these belt whoop'ns had anything to do with the "deathstare" we have as adults? I'm reading this laughing my *** off. I can still hear the sound of the belt buckle and the slapping the tail of the belt made as he quickly pulled it through his belt loops to wear us out. My kids...

I've had more "curled toes" when I have eggs that hatch early (ie. temp was a bit too high). Very few, if any, toe issues when the hatching stays on time.

I made these a couple of days ago. One has a handle that is about 7' long and the other one is about 3' long for use inside the coop. Get a piece of wire and bend it in this general shape. The end that will be attached to the pole I will bend a tight "U" shape about 1/2" in length and start...

Darling little peeps. Love the variety. Something reassuring about a mother hen and her brood going about their business.

I measured the specific gravity of just the two cans of concentrate per gallon and it only calculated out to a vinegar between 4 and 5%. I upped it with sugar to make sure I'd get it over 7%. I have experience with wine making and had the supplies so I went the whole route. The key to the...

Chickens for 10-20 years or more? Pull up a rockin' chair and lay some wisdom on us!

I use a 1 gallon glass container. A 1 gallon plastic vinegar container could be used as well. Covering/top? If you mean during fermentation I use an air-lock. A balloon stretched over the opening with a pin hole on the far end will be fine. The balloon will rise up and remain upright...

Chickens for 10-20 years or more? Pull up a rockin' chair and lay some wisdom on us!

I put a batch on this evening. I used two cans of concentrate to 1 gallon of water. I dissolve 1 cup of sugar in this as well. The sugar content of the concentrate is not high enough to finish a 7% vinegar so I up it with sugar. I added 1 packet of EC1118 wine yeast. Bread yeast will work...
