Sour, your story stuck with me all afternoon (as I was baking a cake made with gratuitous sugar and carbohydrates). That kid's mother must be a joy at holidays. No candy canes from Santa, no Thanksgiving pumpkin pie from Grandma, no candy eggs from the Easter Bunny, no trick or treat loot? And...

Poor kid. I can see not letting him have a dozen but what's the big deal about 1. "Gratuitous sugar and carbohydrates" are ok in moderation (assuming there isn't a dire medical reason for not enjoying).
