Believe you me Zaz, when we do make the plunge it'll be in the middle of no less than 40 or 50 acres. This is my wife & I's first home, all we could budget for.
I would really like to free range, and even though I live in the country, I have a few neighbors close enough that I'm not comfortable with it. My fear is that they would perch on a car and scratch it or aggravate someone with their presence in their manicured yard so I opted to just be on the...
Well score one for me! lol Whatever he is, I'm glad he's out of the shelter and in my home. I really like him. Thanks for all the info everyone. I can't wait to catch a glimpse of him displaying.
@18angovem, yes, those are the feather's true color
Got a few more pics of my new guy. I wish my ringneck pheasant wouldn't be so dern aggressive during mating season but they'll get the pecking order figured out, pretty well do already. Sure enjoy my new guy, time to get him named and broke to eating from my hand! The younger boys were...
I've got no idea so I'm all ears. I do think he looks more "green" in the neck than my IB juvies but thats as far as I can speak. Spalding hadn't really crossed my mind when I picked him up and I didn't really notice the greenish tint until I got him home next to the others. We're happy...
So I picked this gentleman up this weekend at an animal rescue. He looks like he has some pied in him and compared to my pure IB juvies he is more of a green color. I've not seen him display yet but his train looks green to purple in the sunlight and very dark in low light. Any ideas what he...
I really really really want greens someday but I have to build a proper shelter/enclosure for them because of our winters here in IL. I understand they don't take cold well.
I have a Canadian that showed up limping a few weeks ago and won't leave. It's fine now but hangs out with my free ranging ducks. I don't pen or anything. I want it to be free to leave if it chooses but hope it stays a while.
And another from today
Thank you! That is on the outside to keep predators out. My dog does a good job protecting everything but you can never be too sure she'll be awake if Mr. Racoon or Ms. Possum comes knockin during the night. It is a 3 strand wire charged by a typical livestock charger. My pen is 20X50 so it...
I have been here before and posted but thanks! I don't post often b/c my birds are so young and not near as beautiful as everyone else's. I did catch my boys showing off to the mandarin ducks the other day. Hopefully I can sell one of the males this spring, that will give me a cock & a hen.
If you put a small piece of straw in a horsefly's rear and let go, he'll fly straight up out of sight never to be seen again. Used to do it while bailing hay or just anytime you could catch one in general, lol
