What did you do in the garden today?

There are losses and there are wins in the gardening hobby. Today I experienced one of those losses. A deer ate the last canteloupe to ripen on my canteloupe plant. 🙁 But my loss was a gain for my chickens. The chickens got to eat their first fresh canteloupe ever. Needless to say, they loved...

What did you do in the garden today?

Does anyone know what ate my canteloupe?! I went out this morning to take my dog out and he walked toward my canteloupe plant and this was on the ground eaten. We have always had deer problems around here. ALOT of them. Could they be the culprit? There are no sharp points in the bites as if...

What did you do in the garden today?

I am watering mine everyday because it is in the Texas heat and in full sun most of the day, so constant watering keeps it alive.

What did you do in the garden today?

Here is another 3 day growth of my biggest canteloupe fruit. It grew drastically between yesterday and today! My plant currently has 3 big canteloupes and 3 small starting ones. That is the maximum amount of canteloupes I am going to allow this plant to grow.

What did you do in the garden today?

Today I went out to check on my Butternut Squash plant because I finally got some female flowers starting up. They had not opened up yet. Today, they are starting to fall off the vine. I know it is not a problem of no pollination because the buds weren't anywhere near to opening. What could be...

What did you do in the garden today?

Good news! I finally have female canteloupe and squash flowers! The Canteloupe flowers have already bloomed, so I hand pollinated them with 2 male flowers each. I then left the male parts in the middle of the flowers where the pollen is placed so that the pollen is less likely to be washed away...

What did you do in the garden today?

My first Butternut Squash flower bloomed! I only have male flowers growing on the plant right now so I let it bloom and didn't tie it up because it's pollen won't be viable by the time any female flowers are around. To fix my male flower problem, I cut off maybe 8 male flowers because there...

What did you do in the garden today?

That could be it too, but from my experience it has always been roly polies. They have become the hardest part of starting a garden in Texas.
