Hi everybody! Boy, it's probably been at least a year since I've been on BYC. I've been busy with my new horse and getting a barn built for him and his pony friend. The building is up but we're working on getting electric down to it now. We need to hurry up, they're predicting 4-8 inches of...

I just realized something sad.... My remaining RSL, who was connected at the hip to the RSL I had to put down a few weeks ago, hasn't laid an egg since that day Poor girl misses her bestie. She's acting totally fine other than that though. I suppose being a 3 year old RSL might have something...

Sounds to me like it was pretty severe and there isn't anything else you could have done. I would have done the same. My first hen that I had to cull was because of a prolapse (not nearly as bad as your hen's) and I still wonder if I could have saved her, almost two years later! But, I think it...

Wow! All this talk of mud, and seeing pictures with barely any snow on the ground.... I'm still buried under a good three feet of snow!

The last of my @Minniechickmama babies laid her first egg! a beautiful Welsummer egg... Good sized for a first egg! This scale errs a little on the light side, so this egg is probably closer to large in size

I know, I think the same thing every time I go over there.... but I'm not one to tell other people how they should do things, even if I know they're wrong At least this way, the rodents will be more apt to eat HER chickens instead of MINE! lol I'm awful....

I'm starting to suspect my super broody BA is on the verge also.... And my broody buster coop is buried under feet of snow She hatched my chicks last year and was an absolutely awesome mom but I don't have room for any more! I barely have room for the ones I have! And on a scary note, my...

Sad day here. I had to cull one of my Red Stars... I think she was having internal laying issues, or cancer. Either way, she's been miserable. Hadn't really eaten much at all this week and it's been so cold, I don't how she even made it through the nights with no food in her system. This was my...

One of the EE eggs you sent me was dark, but for the life of me I can't remember if that was one that hatched or not!

Got my very first green egg today!! I actually witnessed her lay it too, it was perfect timing. I had seen she was in the nest box earlier so I just poked my head in there a little later to see how she was doing and she stood up and popped out the egg! @Minniechickmama this is from the...

-7 is quite pleasant once the wind dies down. My buckeye is actually venturing outside, everybody else is roosted up in the greenhouse soaking up the rays. Happy birthday Minnie!
