Minnesota!

If it's okay to do in your county, meaning regulations and such, I'd just release them where you are. It would be neat if you could see them out in the brush here and there over the years. I have a friend that raises ringneck pheasant and releases them when they come of age.

I would worry about a large feeder attracting a lot of nuisance animals that you might not want. I'd just go sprinkle the grain for them wherever you think their covey is hiding.

I was thinking the same thing with putting feed out. Or just the fact that stuff like rodents and squirrels would get into it.

As I was typing earlier, it dawned on me, it was too quiet. The fan on my incubator had died overnight. The eggs felt cold. I got them in the hatcher, which works fine, and got my husband to help me fix it. I have 4 other fans I couldn't get to work in the incubator and just had to switch up with one that I disconnected before. Well, my husband works on electronic and electrical stuff, so he helped me figure out how to get one of the new ones working. It is MUCH quieter now too! I hope like he11 that I don't lose too many. I have about 250 eggs in it.

@lalaland I actually googled gape worm before you mentioned it, so I will likely try a swab test for that and bring in a sample on Monday just to see where they are all at. I did look down his throat even I first got him and it looked clear.

@minniechickmama I will look for thrush too.

I'm wondering now if he could just be old and weak. How do you tell if you have an old rooster? He has spurs, but they aren't huge. His comb and waddles are bright red, his eyes are clear. I suggest him being weak because he seems to breath through his mouth and rattle any time he does anything even remotely strenuous, like hoping on a hen. Then after a minute or so he's fine again usually. He walks around and seems otherwise healthy. Maybe I'll try taking a video of him and posting a link.

@Minniechickmama I am curious about my dark cornish
1) I have 1 thats nails are getting super long and the top beak is starting to get long too. should i be trimming either/both?
2) one of mine seems to have sleep apnea or something? three times now over the last month or more i go in the coop thinking it is dead but as soon as i touch it it hops up and runs away, awake and clear eyed. seems to fall asleep on its feet? have you ever seen anything like that? doesnt seem sick or anything normally. The dark cornish dont usually even leave the coop so maybe just a lazy bird :)

I am loving these colorful eggs!!

Gorgeous! What breeds are those from? I'm only getting 3 to 4 eggs a day right now. And that's 1 goose egg every other day, then 2 duck eggs and 1 chicken egg.

I know nothing about dark cornish specifically, but I know that when my drakes get calcium, their nails grow quicker. If you are supplementing calcium, maybe take him off it for a while?

I've got 2 Easter Eggers, 1 Buckeye, 1 Welsummer, 2 Australorps, 1 Wyandotte and 1 Red Star. These are from the past week or so, I don't get that many in a day unfortunately!
