I have a portable building with a lofted roof that serves as my bird barn. It has a couple of small windows in the back, but not enough for good natural light - so my husband put electrical wiring in place and added some bright ceiling lights inside. It has worked out really well. My birds are...
I had a friend who lost the majority of her flock to a mink attack that occurred during the day - while she was away running errands. I hope you catch the little culprit soon!
Any suggestions welcome: I have left Facebook and won’t be going back. I raise Ohiki and American Longtails. I presently have some adult birds I would like to rehome (reasonably priced) but don’t know my way around here very well yet. I am thinking about doing some Craigslist ads — do people...
Is this you, Janet? Birdie, here — I’ve dumped Facebook and am trying to reconnect with bird friends via BYC. Trying to get the hang of things on this site — it’s been a long while since I have been active here.
Happy Saturday, everyone ... how about this weather?!
I have a barred Ohiki chick around a month old that I would like to rehome as a pet. I call him Gonzo and he has a lot of personality!
Because I already have three barred Ohiki roosters, I don't need to keep him - plus, his legs are a bit...
I did not know that geese would attack aerial predators! Do you have much of a problem with any of your geese turning mean on you? I didn't have any interest in them, but you have me rethinking things.
Would love that ducksghetti recipe!
I said that I wouldn't be raising chicks in the middle...
@jchny2000 - the new quail sound like a great investment. I miss raising them, but just don't have the time for more birds right now - probably won't until I finish with school. My kids miss their eggs, and so do I. But for the time being, I will just be focusing on my Ohiki, fibro phoenix, and...
I am in NEIN - went to the recent Lebanon show and had to explain to everyone what I had for sale: Cemani, fibro phoenix, fly tie fowl, and barred phoenix. I am selling out of the Cemani to concentrate on fibro Phoenix and Ohiki. Still have my pair of barred phoenix and a pair of fly tie available.
@SallyinIndiana - thanks for the info. I decided to process them myself, as I can find the time. Butchered two cockerels this evening and got them in the pressure cooker in short order to make some soup. Turned out pretty good.
I hatched an over abundance of boys this year, so I have some more...
@chick rookie - Polish was the only breed I saw at the show that tempted me. I love the Tolblunts. But it has taken me about four years to figure out what I want to concentrate on as a breeder, and I am sticking with Ohiki. :) I will also work on my line of fibro phoenix - they are so gorgeous...
They are very pretty silkies! And unfortunately, I didn't sell a single bird. I had some very nice conversations. Most folks really didn't understand what I had for sale, except my Ayam Cemani - and they weren't willing to pay the price, even though I was offering them for cheap based on normal...
Oh no! So sorry to hear about your dog - hope it is well on the mend. We met some very nice people, but I didn't sell a single bird ... very disappointing. It was just too cold to stay for the entire day, so we left close to 1:30pm. If I had known more about the show, I would have come down...
I will be bringing a trio of Ayam Cemani, a trio of fibro phoenix, a pair of barred phoenix, a pair of fly tie fowl, and various other colors of phoenix. Please look me up!
This is what Cash looks like when the sun shines directly on him (he was enjoying the warmth and relaxing while I was holding him - thus the closed eyes!):
