INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I'm just going. May help a friend wash her chickens' feet. Looking at what's for sale. I've never been before. So I'm excited!

I will be bringing a trio of Ayam Cemani, a trio of fibro phoenix, a pair of barred phoenix, a pair of fly tie fowl, and various other colors of phoenix. Please look me up!

As a long time Bowie fan, I must point out that his iconic red hair (Polish chicken style) was from 1972-74. He's always been ahead of his time.

On the road to Lebanon - I hope to meet you if you're there! Look for me in a beat up old burgandy Chevy astro van!
I was all ready to pull out and 1 of my GP dogs had an early morning run in with a Coyote, so I will be staying home to mend him, and give him all kinds of lovies

and I got Welie egg today too, not as dark as I hoped but it is speckled, lightly.
pic's wont load will try again latter
Is Summer just now laying?

I bought two more Wellie pullets a couple months after the two Wellies I gave to you. At least one of them just started laying, and boy oh boy, it's a DARK egg. Not as dark as some Marans egg pictures I've seen, but it's darker than terra cotta. She's given me three so far. I think the smaller Wellie of the pair has been laying too because I get slightly darker-than-usual eggs with speckles... but only time will tell because quite a few of my girls have been giving me varying degrees of speckles.

One of the coolest eggs I've ever seen happened this week also: greenish-blue with pink spots! One of my EEs must've dropped it. I regularly get pink eggs (think from the Light Brahmas) but only one EE lays the greenish eggs (that I know of, seeing as how I don't get them very often). Really pretty little pullet egg.

Predator update: I saw one (possibly two different) opossum last night as I went out to get the birds inside (frost advisory, and all that), and saw one huge opossum running along the side of the fence. Later, I saw another smaller one (possibly the same one, but it certainly looked smaller than the first sighting) lapping out of the kiddie pool. It seemed less afraid than the first one. Think we may have a momma opossum and her young to contend with. We already caught one young opossum earlier this year. It/they has been eating a lot of eggs (and also veggies from the garden). Both sightings dashed into a hole under the house.

No Summer has been laying since the week after we got her, this was one of the pullets we got from Brat Flock last weekend. Summer's egg is a little darker and speckled more, I think the other might get a little bit darker as she gets going better, just started so they aren't even up to sz yet. I still say 2 1/4 oz is pretty good for a pullet's first egg. I have got them as little as 1/2 an oz before... lol

You have probably got a family of opossum. We had a family last year they put a big dent in my eggs if I didn't get them first. We had to kill the mom, she got to killing the hens and was too smart ( or dumb depending how you look at it ) to get into the trap. We relocated the kids.
We have a HUGE Raccoon that has been living in our garage all summer. but she don't bother anything so we leave her alone. I just hope as winter gets harder she don't decide to go for the easier meals here. If she does she will have to go of course, but right now she is being good.

Oh no! So sorry to hear about your dog - hope it is well on the mend. We met some very nice people, but I didn't sell a single bird ... very disappointing. It was just too cold to stay for the entire day, so we left close to 1:30pm. If I had known more about the show, I would have come down towards the end of it. Ah well, live and learn! Well, I have too many birds. Looks like some will have to wind up in the freezer unless I get some interested buyers over the next two weeks.

They are very pretty silkies! And unfortunately, I didn't sell a single bird. I had some very nice conversations. Most folks really didn't understand what I had for sale, except my Ayam Cemani - and they weren't willing to pay the price, even though I was offering them for cheap based on normal asking prices. A few folks seemed interested in my fly tie fowl, especially after I explained that they are a tri-purpose bird - but no one bought. Bad time of year for bird sales. :'(

Darn, Sorry it did't work out for you.
