Ive thought about doing that myself. Either with the BCM or the Welsummers. I know alot of people cant stand the speckled ones, but I LOVE them!! I currently have one BCM hen that lays a dark egg and every other one has lots of speckles around the middle area. Right now I have Wellies...
Anyone in or around Central Texas looking to get rid of Wade Jean line roos? I would love to get one, maybe two from someone. I really dont feel like starting off with chicks again at this point. Not right now anyways. Send me a PM if you like.
Couple of questions..
1) I currently use a MagLite flashlight to candle my eggs. It doesnt really work that well with my marans eggs though. So I need to buy one that does. What does everyone else use on their marans eggs that you can actually see something in the egg? I would prefer something...

I may be a little late, but to me it looks like two boys and a girl. The one one the far left looks like the female to me. The other two have larger redder combs. But the one on the far left has a lighter and smaller comb.
Thanks cp. With marans eggs, do they get darker once they start laying more? Or is this pretty much what Im going to be getting from now on?

Thanks, I love them. The eggs I got from you were nice and dark and the birds are so friendly. Towards the end of the month I would like to buy...
I was just talking with someone telling them that my girls still havent layed yet and poof! Wouldnt you know they go and lay today, well three of them did anyways. The two bigger eggs are from my BA and a sex-link. Thinkfully I know which girl layed the nice dark egg! After I found the first two...

I think your roo has a very nice profile-very pleasing body shape, comb and tail, and his hackle and saddle feathers are a nice shade of copper. If you breed him look for cockerels that have his good characteristics, but with less red on the breast. I hope others with more knowledge...
Here are a few pictures of my BC Marans rooster. He was one of two, but sadly a hawk killed the other one. And of course it had to get the one that was the better of the two. This one has way to much orangy yellow coloring. I havent really been able to get good profile pictures yet. Its been so...

Can I come to your house? I would pick berries all day long if I had to! Very beautiful pictures!! Thats too neat that you found that grape vine though. How kool is that?
Okay Im curious about something..
Ive had a couple different people(4) tell me that when you incubate black copper marans eggs that you should go a little higher in humidity then you would with other eggs. Is this true? How high/low do you go when incubating BCM eggs? Im using a hovabator 1588...
I have 5 BCM due to hatch Monday. I cant wait!
Then I will be getting even more BCM eggs from onthespot.
Im thinking about having only BCM and Araucanas. Not 100% sure yet. Still debating over it..
Just to check..on the marans color chart I know the first one is the white egg to compare. But the second one, thats that the 4? Then it goes up from there right?
Okay, can someone clear this up for me? I pronounce marans as.. mare-N 's. Almost like errands, but with a 'ma' sound and leave the d out. But their is a friend who swears up and down that I am saying it wrong and that its.. Ma-ran 's. As if you ran somewhere. But this is also the same person...
I bought some BCM eggs from Nancy(bargin) and they were a nice dark color. I also got 3 Welsummer eggs and one of them was just a dark as the BCM eggs. I was really impressed. I cant wait for them to hatch.
This is my golden cuckoo I hatched from Melissa. I thought I sexed them at birth and keep the two pullets, but Im second guessing myself now. They hatched Feb 19th, so they're about 9 weeks old right now. Does this look like a girl or boy to you?

Haha I guess so. I love PJs! I wish I could wear them everwhere. Today just gives me an excuse to wear them all day long though. Its cold and rainy and Ive been cleaning house all day. And to think I was a 'city girl' a couple of years ago. I wouldnt step out of the house without my...
