Lucky frickin chicken.
I have decided that poor Sheila the Australorp is either an accident waiting to happen or an extremely lucky chicken. She's the one that I saved as a chick when I found her choking on a mouthful of chick starter. I noticed her getting weak and found a spongey mass of...
I found my rooster frozen under the coop last night when I went to put everybody in. He was fine an hour earlier. The thermometer in my Jeep said -26 this morning and there's still school. Glad I'm homeschooling, I do NOT want to be out there longer than I have to!
No idea what an SBEL is lol. I got a BSL hen, a Silky rooster, and a Millie Fluer D'Uccle Rooster off of Misty's list so will hopefully be hatching some fun color babies from my EE girls and the MF if they ever start laying. The MF and Silky were getting into endless crowing competitions so I...
If you end up with extra chicks, let me know. I just gave away my daughter's silky rooster and promised to replace him. Fx you get pullets out your ears
I hatched a Welsummer on Thursday! Noone else has hatched and they were due Friday. How long before I give up? 9 eggs set, two were clear when I got around to candling on day 17, four were wiggling around in there, and 3 were too dark to tell.
The chick that hatched came out the wrong end...
I'm getting 6+ Welsummer eggs from a BYC member!!! I'm so excited, because I really want some Wellies! But I have to borrow the incubator from 4H and the person that has it now is on bacation so we can't get ahold of her to see if I can have it now. I reserved it for August 26th which means CAL...
Can't stop laughing. My neighbor wins the Doodah of the Year Award. Aparently someone enjoyed Teton Raptor Center's demonstration at the park on Monday waaaaay too much because they thought one of my chickens was a falcon and called Animal Control.
I can only hope it was an Easter Egger...
I can hardly tell mine apart! Not at all from a distance.
Since I put them outside they aren't very friendly anymore :( My husband has procrastinated building a gate to keep them in their run so they spend most of their time running around my backyard and hide from me under the playhouse, the...
So I promised La Casa de Pollo a while back that I would share updated pictures of Moxie, the chick she debated keeping, but sent to Chickenstock. Here she is today, still quite the spitfire.
Her sister Sweet Gypsy Jane
Her other sister and the ringleader of my whole flock Firefly
I have a yearling goat that thinks she is a lap goat. She wasn't even bottle raised and her mama was kind of wild so not sure where that came from. Good thing she's a dwarf goat! But she just got back from the breeder and was greasy with buck smell and brought home lice, so I wasn't too thrilled...
They did have black sexlinks there too and they were completely black and tiny. The yellow chicks were quite a bit older than all the other chicks in the other bins, so they may have just been put in with the Australorps because they were the second biggest and already had wing feathers...
I said white feathers on their wings not chests. I'm told this is normal too though and will go away
And here they are Sheila on the left Wheezy on the right
Wheezy squawks instead of peeping sometimes. It sounds like a baby raven hollering for food. Does that mean something is wrong? She is...
Chicken math has struck again! I went to CAL Ranch and got 2 chicks out of the bin labeled "Australorps" then I told my husband that my chicken wish list was complete unless I find Welsummers....and then I got them home. They have white feathers coming in under their wings and now that I'm...
