Great pictures Cyn. I especially love the ironing board one.

I'm sorry Cyn, you did everything you could.

And then not-so-bright Deacon could have his own place.

I learned my first year of having roosters, don't use a metal feeder in winter. One of my males drank water, then went to eat and his wattles stuck to the feeder. I found him with bloody wattles. Ever since then, I change out the feeder to plastic in winter. I'm sorry Rex isn't doing well...

I love watching my roosters with my broodies and chicks. I always segregate (within the flock) my broodies with their chicks for 1 week, then I let them out with the flock. My barnevelder male would bring in grape leaves and give them to the broody to feed to her chicks. He would then stand...

Yep, I was pretty shocked myself. She is in with my Welsummer flock, so her egg is very obvious. She laid several fart eggs around 4 1/2 years old, then quit altogether. She is one of my original hens. (I only have 2 left, her and a Barred Rock) With the fart eggs, I thought she was having...

muttsfan - I've had that happen too. Cyn - I had a hen that had not laid an egg in a year and a half go broody this year. She is my 6 year old hatchery light brahma. She had never been broody before either. She did fine and was a great mother to her 3 chicks, though I was a bit shocked...

Yeah, unproven Brodie's are stressful. I've had nitwit broodies that have been egg/chick squishers. This summer, I had 10 broodies - I'm still weeding through the cockerels for a couple keepers.

Atlas has nice width, which will help keep wide hens. And his tail is so nice and full. Yes, high for a Rock, but really thick and full! He's a beautiful male Cyn. And Deacon, what a goober.

Awww, he looks like a sweet cat. He's still looking good, but I do agree with your assessment of him. The first thing that popped out at me was the short back, but mated to a hen with a long back might fix it in your offspring? His chest may still fill in more. He's still a handsome boy!

Oh, I've had welsummer roosters do that wail. It's pathetic.

See, now I have the opposite experience with pure Ameraucana's. Except one, mine were flighty as all get out. I had a fully grown hen squeeze through a square opening in non climb fencing to avoid me. Now the one exception was my buddy, but I lost her to a bobcat. Is that bread in the BYC...

My Dusty is the sweetest thing ever UNTIL she goes broody. Then she's a fierce witch that won't let you near her. I've had the chunks taken from my hands to prove it.

I love quality Barred Rocks. Mine is one of my best broodies. Fred wants to steal her from me, and I've thought about it, but that's as far as it has gone. This is Dusty and she's still trying to come out of her molt, so she's a bit thin.
