I love to hear about the BSF. I would really like to get some some day. Do you have a thread on BYC covering the BSF and ideas on attracting/housing them?

I wish we had BSF here. I think its too dry for them. I would have to build a box and import them.

Screws will also hold better than staples or nails. If you make your own out of older, drier wood, you'll need to drill guide holes so the wood doesn't split. After I drill, I usually "round-out" the hole so the screw head doesn't cause a split either.

Do the roots not need deep earth? The cement mixing pans I've seen around here are only about 8" deep.
