Agree with Wuvduck that calls are much harder. Even regular ducks can have a tougher time getting out and require assistance. I had 3 that pipped on the sides rather than the air sacs and I had to assist all 3 and managed to save 2 of them. I think I had to assist 2 or 3 other ducks too...
I'd leave him in for awhile. He'll help coax the rest of the babies to come outta their shell. My favorite part of hatches is to catch the first one zipping and then play cheeping duckling audios for it and watch em come out. Got lucky with my last one and got to watch the first one hatch and...
They are anconas. Beautiful ducks, I'll take some pics in a lil bit and post em. Gettin ready to take them outside since it's 80 degrees today. I set 18 eggs a month ago in this incubator, figuring it didn't matter they were crammed in there so tight cos I figured there would be a couple that...
I did right after it happened and most of them were still moving. Only one actually had blood coming out of the exposed membrane but most looked okay. I know they are strong ducks cos we just had a hatch last week that yielded 37 out of 40 that went into lockdown and all of them are strong and...
Heres a better shot of the front view.
It's kinda tough to see all the cracks but you can tell pretty easily that the center one on this is smashed pretty bad.
Here's one side. You can see the badly damaged one second from the right but most look more like the 3rd from the right. I will try to take another pic from the other side, the pic I did isn't showing up very well.
They are just about to finish day 26 and it happened a day and a half ago. I wish I had got on here when it happened cos I never knew to try putting something on the cracks to try and keep em from drying out. They have been in lockdown since it happened with 75% humidity but I can clearly see...
Hey, any help with this would be great. The night before last, I was prepping our little brinsea incubator for lockdown and had a disaster. While filling the water tray, I bumped the egg basket off the counter and knocked all 18 eggs onto the floor. All but 2 had some type of damage, ranging...
Anyone know of any bird swaps this weekend in Colorado? We have 38 baby ancona ducks that have hatched in the last couple days and they need a new home!
I had a very similar experience last year with my duck eggs. all the shipped eggs just died in the last week of incubation. I also had that same hygrometer last year and when I actually got some accurate hygro/thermometers that were built for incubators I discovered that that particular...
Is that a shipped egg? I had a couple last year that looked like that and they were both shipped eggs that had been scrambled. Before I set them, I could see that the air sac was not stable and floating around inside but I tried them anyways. One died shortly after a week and the other...
I had one duck that pipped and then sat for 56 hours before I finally had to literally pull him out. I had been assisting him for probably at least 16 hours before I finally made the call to get him out on his own. Sometimes they can be very slow to hatch. Did notice on an earlier group of...
SWEEEEET! My new incutherm thermometer/hygrometers just arrived. After having a nightmare last year with never knowing what thermometers were reading right and which ones were wrong or meters just suddenly going haywire (we probably tried at least a dozen different ones), we finally found an...
Hey guys, does anyone have experience collecting duck eggs for the incubator? I've got 31 collected in the last 6 days that are awaiting their stay in the incubator and I'm just wondering if they are clean enough to prevent a bacterial outbreak in the bator. I've been trying to get fairly...
