*goes to count chicks in the brooder*
I *think* I have 22? Including the two ducklings. All from various times as I kept taking eggs from the broody coop, lol! I didn't keep track of how many were set though. Not great rates, but not terrible considering that incubator. Just really happy...
You can try nutri-drench or other vitamin/electrolyte solution, or someone here says they make a slurry with egg yolk, I believe. This would be good for all of them.
The chick may just still be getting used to controlling it's own muscles. After being in that cramped egg, trying to figure out...
Smaller eggs can hatch earlier. So long as the chick is moving and getting enough oxygen, then it should be okay. If they've internally pipped for over 24 hours (48 for ducks) without an external pip, you can take a pin and make a little hole where the air cell is to allow for fresh air. I...
My two ducklings, and the chick, are doing fine this morning. I'll probably toss out the other six duck eggs in a day or two, and I want to clean out the incubator since I've had so many staggered hatches in there. There are seven other duck eggs in there, and a few chicken eggs, but I'm...
PHEW! Done for today. The two ducklings are out, as well as the third/last much egg. I'll leave them in the incubator overnight then move them to the brooder in the morning.
And now the second duckling is out! With many thanks to @New duck mommy 2021 !
As you can see, there's a chicken egg also in the process of hatching next to the duckling.
We have a duckling!!!
After over an hour of trying to extricate himself out of his shell, I took a closer look. He hadn't zipped off a big/wide enough section, so was sort of wedged there. I crumpled the edges of the shell and let him finish his pushing.
The third of the muck-eggs has pipped. And the duck eggs are slowly zipping with very lively babies inside. Still, that's only two out of a dozen duck eggs that made it to hatch.
Happy for all the surprise babies I got these past few days, though.
