Pouring rains today, but got shots of the baby bluebirds out and about from their nest box.
We don't feed these ones but back in 1999, we did plant the Caragana shelterbelts that host the bugs these birds feed to their babes!
They are pretty hungry lil' boogers, eh.

I think the Redpoll is an excellent suggestion...five different subspecies and the name alone "poll" as in like a red cap has me smittened...good show!

Thanks, eh...the grouse make the sweetest of noises and their feathered booty feets have me enchanted. They obviously do not migrate--shedding summer colours for more winterish ones (brown morphs for warmer more humid times versus grey morphs for cold).

What happens here is we have weather not conducive to young owls being able to get prey. Too much snow cover = no access to proper food like the mice.
