From some of the stories I've read on here about roosters, I'm glad he's going to be little!! Fortunately, since we've thought that he was a she, and she was easily identified as being bigger and a totally different color, he's gotten picked up alot. I was calling her/him "big mama"...so guess...
We do have a caretaker come by morning and night to feed and check on the chickens, and of course, I visit them whenever I am in town, but we do travel alot. I'm hoping that we find a live in caretaker for the horses and chickens when we move the horses in.
I wish I could get a dog for there, but it just wouldn't really be fair to the dog, since there won't be people living on the property full time, at this point.
It does sound like roosters are neat animals, just trying to get more information before I make any decisions
Will the hens "protect" themselves or watch for danger, or ???
I don't eat eggs, but my b/f does....so I don't care if they are fertile either way....although I wouldn't mind if more chicks "just appeared" one day!
I have 7 bantam pullets (at least I think they are all pullets). I'm new to chickens and I've been reading lots of info here at BYC. It seems that roosters do a lot to protect their flock of hens....do I need one?
I will be keeping the hens at our ranchette, which is approximately 1 acre in...
