We started with 10 eggs, one wasn’t fertile and was removed leaving 9.
One chick hatched every day over the first 3 days. So 3 live chicks.
Mama abandoned 3 eggs that I removed. 2 were early quitters. Unfortunately one was still alive and had to be culled as mama had completely abandoned it...
I didn’t see anything at 7:30am but thought I heard a single peep. At noon I found this.
I don’t see any more hatchlings just yet but mama is hiding things. I think having babies coming out underneath her is making it more difficult for her to cover all of the eggs because this is what I found...
Well today was possibly day 21 but no sign of chicks. Mama is sitting pretty and growling at me. I’m thinking there will be an arrival during the night.
I had settled on a plan to go first thing in the morning to pick up a brooding lamp. I have my tote and I’d cover it with hardware cloth. Or...
Are you saying that the one that you said that earlier than day 18 is that one going to hatch first? Or is that going to hatch later than 2, 3, and four?
Today might be day 18 but as I’ve said this clutch might have some late joiners thanks to sneaky hens. I don’t think I’m going to candle again at lest until she abandons any eggs. Not sure about viability in a couple. I’ve given them official numbers this time. So tell me what you see.
No I don’t have an incubator. It’s not something I can afford right now. I am flummoxed as to how this happened. 1 day, 2 days, ok. I was afraid of that and it’s one reason why I moved eggs on day 4. But 7days? 9 days? Flummoxed! It’s upsetting knowing these probably won’t make it.
I’m going to try again on Thursday. That should be day 18! I can see that I could have mixed up a 2 day late egg but how the heck did I get any that are 7-9 days behind! I put her eggs in a private coop on day 4. I don’t have an incubator to finish any that are behind. 😟🤷🏻♀️
Could you mean 6 or 7 look empty? Not sure which one you think is a late addition. I can imagine one is late. She got kicked out often and I might have mixed it up. Maybe you mean #10? Pictures might be good but you might need to watch video again. 🫣
I did candle through the egg cell for each one but I moved around a bit to see if I could pick u on anything else.
I thought the same thing about #1 but I hate the thought of making a mistake. This is only my second time I’ve allowed a broody to hatch. It’s Rosie’s first time. Last year...
Bumping so you can see the candled eggs and give me your opinions, experienced, expert, or amateur welcome. One week to go! This is my second candling of these eggs. Not sure if I’ll try again before I hit lockdown. It stresses me. I’m afraid I’ll drop one.
I agree. I’m thinking the one that looked lively is a day or so older. Like I had said, she had been separated from her egg(s) a few hours due to ba bit of bullying. She ended up sitting on one egg, got kicked out, went to a different nest and sat on those eggs. I moved the original eggs in with...
