Personally, I would put him in a dog crate/carrier within the chicken pen, that way they cant peck at his injuries but they don't forget him, so he doesn't have to go back thru integrations.

Something else, you don't have to open his eye to know the eyeball is still there. If it's there, you should start to see the eyeball moving behind the eyelids. Just like you can see eyeballs of people moving during REM sleep.

When the eyeball usually gets popped/punctured, it then dries up in the socket. I've never seen a chicken with the eyeball hanging out (like in horror movies). I got no idea about what happens to the eyelids themselves.
