Update:celebrate
I haven’t written for a while because nothing much was going on…but yesterday either Winnie or Hilda laid an egg! And another one today!
The ducks are nearly six months old. They helped themselves to the pond on Christmas Day and wouldn’t come back. We finally managed to scare...
Life was going on, normal day to day that is so often taken for granted, when this happened:
It wasn’t a predator; it was the geese. Somehow the poor girls got in the goose pen last night and they were found cowering in the goose hut (that the geese don’t enter) this morning. We washed the...
Today Henry and Hilda were head bobbing each other. Henry was in the pool and Hilda was standing outside. After a minute Hilda got into the pool and after some more head bobbing on both sides Henry began to bite at her neck. Hilda would swim around crouched down but didn’t seem to mind a whole...
The ducks are fourteen weeks old! It seems incredible…They have been having a good time in the back yard now that they get the run of the place instead of the geese. They also enjoy having the deep litter method instead of the wooden floor.
Some closeups - left to right:
The quackers, Winnie...
It’s a beautiful Sunday afternoon and I thought I’d share a couple photos of everyone enjoying themselves.
The roof caved in on the old house - sure glad everyone has been moved out!
Henry having a grand time in the newly refilled pool
Everyone raising a splash
Why does Henry always...
Thank you!
I do online college so I am home all the time :). It kind of creates even more stress because there’s always some sort of trouble going on and I have to run out to intervene (mostly turkeys trying to fall in the pool:barnie).
I forgot to post for a couple weeks because I’ve been busy with school. I have to say college and fifteen barnyard fowl don’t mix too well…
Anyway, here are the ducks on their twelfth (week) birthday. They are loving the marsh that was created when I dumped their pools out this afternoon. Henry...
Okay, I’m sort of back in order so I was able to go down and get some “good” pictures. Henry isn’t showing any signs of a green head at nine weeks. Everyone’s gotten plumper and bigger but they do not seem to be as big as my Pekings were. I know they are not quite as large but I thought they...
It is a nice evening after a sweltering hot day. I sit on the back deck, my first time outside in nearly a week since I tore something in my knee. Winnie’s loud and insistent quack suddenly echos over the backyard. The chickens are eating the duck food again…
They look like they got a little...
Eight weeks old yesterday! I let them stay out a little after I’d put everyone else to bed. The sunset was beautiful! I didn’t even edit this picture.
This morning the ducks were playing happily in their clean pool, and I meant to get a picture of them but I tripped and hurt my knee - I can’t...
Today is hot and muggy, as if to give us one last chance at enjoying summer (colder days are forecasted soon), so everyone is trying to stay hydrated and out of the sun.
The little quackers have been free ranging nearly all day and no one has cause them too much trouble - except the geese have...
The ducklings are six weeks old today. They have already learned to go into their pen at night (with a little bit of guidance as to where it is). The geese leave them alone for the most part now, but for some reason the turkeys had it in for them today. Thankfully my dog ran the turkeys off...
