Does anyone know if there's a gene thread on here? I'm starting to get into the chicken genes, and just found out I could start breeding 'black sex links' next hatching season with my bared rock and Wyandotte girls.
Quick question, what's the average age for pullets that roosters actually show interest? I have a 13 week old barred rock girl that'll start laying in October hopefully. I only have one, so I want to hatch out some variant of the breed.
Welp, my 2nd batch of chicks started hatching this weekend, I have 11 of which I've marked that were fertile, but only have nine eggs, or had. Not sure if I forgot to mark I threw out infertile ones or not. I've had 5 hatch out, two of which died, one was bloody, the other was laying dead on the...
I'm hatching some RIR and a few mixed chicks on the 17th.
congrats guys on the hatches!
I'm putting my 11 under lockdown, but one might be a dead babe, but i'll keep it in there until the rest of the batch is finished.
congrats on your hatch!
and yep, I think i'll be giving up on the first batch, only one looks like it's one day 25, the rest don't look like they made it to day 18.
another sad note, one of my live chicks, I believe my second hatcher died last night, not sure how, I think it broke it's neck in...
congrats on the hatch! my fingers crossed that all 9 are out and about by tomorrow!
Well, from what I can hear, I have one more chick that's responding in it's egg, so that will make a hatch rate of 5/13 if this last one pops out by tomorrow, i'm not sure if I should give the rest of my first...
This ia only my second hatch, but I have to warn you some may take a bit to hatch and will go way past the 21st day, but it should cause no concern if your temps have been steady.
For your question, I've found you usually hear them day 21 or older, as I've found they tend to thriw fits when...
congrats!
Welp, I have now two live chicks, and two other eggs that seemed to want to join their two siblings. heating pad method looks like its working for the first hatchling, whom is deep under the lil heating pad cave.
good luck on your hatch!
Thank you, im a bit (a lot) nervious and anxious, as this is the first chick that actually seems healthy, and one that didn't need help. So my mind's conjuring up the worst things that could happen atm!
Thank you! Aaand after looking at the semi fluffed uo chick, I don't know what breed it is, doesn't look like a rir chick, or the pics I've seen of them, he doesn't look it, and he doesn't look like a buff laced polish either. His markings make him look like a keet rather than a chick.
I'm not entirely sure seeing as there are two different roosters of different breeds, but they're either a RIR, or RIR Polish mix. And if I can figure out how to post a pic on here, i'd love to post some of my first little cheeper.
I have a question though, seeing as the chicks ive actually...
If I read this right, you have 4 + the pekin? I'd put the bator eggs under the hen, that is if she can fit them all comfortably. I have NEVER seen a duck egg before, so I don't know size.
Update!
I was candling them to see if I could see any internal pips, and nearly smothered a beak with the flashlight. I closed it, did a little happy dance, then got some more water to up the humidity a bit, then went to start up my heat pad. I'll have to check the rest after this one hatches out.
Welp, I hate when this happens to me. I have a batch of 11 eggs that are now on their 24th day in the incubator, they all look like they're on different days, some are completely pitch black and I can only see something from the air sac side of the egg. I'm stagger hatching, and I don't know...
ooh,it's that good? If I ever drive that way, i'll have to try some, the best pizza I have is Caseys, which is the best pizza i'll probably ever have until I get my license.
Good luck on your hatch! though i'd love to see a hen do this, can't wait to get silkies so I won't be worrying about if...
