I'm in Canada, not the coldest parts but i get cold enough, i don't heat the chickens including the bantams. Their are some breeds i am sure not cold tolerant so i am not totally against heat but i question with a compromised flock whether it would be of benefit or not? you'd have to be sure you...
That is a terrible feeling but i get it i have been doing that for almost the last 2wks because of our wee boy, at least this AM i know what to expect, his poor pullet though.. she's alone and never has been that is one i have to fix but need to sort how.
I agree, i am doing it for them and selfishly my own sanity(what is left at this point) i inquired last week at the University of Guelph, and am fortunate my local vet can forward my bird.
So i get the wonderful task tomorrow of setting up a necropsy. Yep, my cockerel passed this AM. i have no clue, what it is, could be Mareks? could be something else entirely. Only the testing will confirm that.
Feeling a bit sucker punched, came from a good breeder, good bird. a real loss...
aren't they just the cutest! i had some silkies hatch about 2wks ago(Tuesday) an oopsie on our part, thought someone was grabbing eggs, she didn't even act broody lol
Thanks. I did make enquirers yesterday and can have a necropsy performed it'll cost me 60$ so far though, my bird is alive but at least i know if we loose him i can find out if that is what it was or at least eliminate that as the cause.
That doesn't sound crazy, that sounds like a good flock keeper.. everyone should know what is normal behaviour for their animals that helps you at least get a jumpstart on treatment and/or know if their is trouble before it's like wham in you're face.
Following this thread, even if i am not dealing with it, good basic info to swirl through my head anyways lol
Now may i ask, how soon do symptoms appear? like could a bird be fine in the AM and then not by evening with Zero signs prior or is that not how this works?? If my head has wrapped...
