I'll have to try that. I have 3 horses, but I don't have any wrap. What I attempted to use was meant for people, and it fell off as soon as I put her on the floor.
All of the ducklings get baths twice a day while I'm cleaning out their brooder. I've been giving her an extra bath during the day that is deep enough where she can swim around and get some weight off of her leg.
I wondered about that too. I didn't notice her having any problems walking until I moved them all into a very large dog cage, so I'm honestly not sure when she started having problems. I guess it's even possible that she had problems when I got her since TSC had so many ducklings in one brooder...
I don't have vet wrap, but I have something very similar that sticks to itself. I finally got a shoe on her, but it came off as soon as I put her down. I'll get some vet wrap tomorrow and try it. Should I wrap it part way up her leg too?
This is her foot. After moving it around and attempting to put a shoe on it (that failed miserably) I'm no longer thinking it's the Achilles. She has full range of motion but won't hold her foot open and I can't get a shoe to stay on. I'm wondering if it could still just be niacin since she has...
I read the post and I do think it's her Achilles. I saw where someone taped their duck's leg to help. Is there a special kind of tape I shoild use? I think I'm going to cancel the vet appointment because I don't want to pay all that money just for them to tell me she's a lost cause.
I'm thinking that she probably has a slipped Achilles tendon. She had a vet appointment tomorrow morning, but I keep reading about ducks being put down because of slipped tendons so I'm really worried now. :(
After letting her swim for a bit and putting an Epsom salt wrap on her leg, I think she has something either broken or dislocated in her foot. I'm calling the vet in the morning. We have a local vet that specializes in avians so I'm hoping they'll see her.
Thanks! I really hope that's the problem and that there's not something else. My mom has some Epsom salt so I'll soak a cloth in some and wrap it around her leg for a little bit when I get home.
I think she's probably around 3 weeks old. I'll give that a try when I can get some Epsom salt. Thanks! I really think it's niacin since the one leg is getting better.
I posted a few days ago about my Pekin duckling who appears to have a niacin deficiency. I started giving her much larger amounts of brewer's yeast, and today I got her some niacin. One of her legs looks almost normal now, but the other one almost looks worse. It's very swollen and bowed out...
