I'm addicted to DIY... i have three fishtanks in the shed (i designed and built the shed) breeding guppies and an aquaponics system that i'll be expanding very soon to over four times the size.
cheers, where the coop is located is under trees with fairly dense foliage. Also we do cover the nesting boxes its just not in the video or photos. we leave the door to the run open all the time and the way the roof is constructed allows for ventilation as well.
Being in Australia (Melbourne)...
Domestic cats would be our 'common' predators around here with the slight chance of foxes and thats it. I'm more worried about the mice getting in and making a mess to be honest.
I'm keeping a close eye on things to see if anything is scratching around the outside, the chooks are doing a great...
I'm hoping to get a video of the setup done this weekend. the girls have awesome personalities and respond really well to us and are always up for a chat!!
The same day we picked them up we had our first egg. As they are still young it now varies from one to three per day, we have also had a nice big double yolker.
the chook diner... the water system is temporary as i will have a self feeding system setup soon
and from the other side
the chooks house prior to the chooks...
and from the other end
The Chook Mahal is finished enough to house the chooks...
The nesting box is nice and comfy
Plenty of comfy bedding to cover the coop floor that will become a nice addition to compost bin soon.
The nesting boxes with the lid open
Roost (i'll install another one this coming weekend)...
Went over to the Riddells Creek Farmers Market and picked up some local chooks.
These came from the Emu Farm in Gisborne and had started laying over the past couple of days.
The new girls are 22 weeks old and are already settled in!!
All ready to head home!!
starting to apply the chicken wire too
and even got some outdoor roosts made, the stump and branches, was a tree that was pulled down in order to make room for the run!
And i had to take a photo of the chicken wire... so, who uses chicken wire in their fish tanks?
Got a bit more done... finally!!!
The floor, roost, roof and ladder are all in/on... just need to find some funds to get the timber for the run, and true to form that will be over engineered...lol
