Help with my homemade incubator please!

Well, the final tally was zero chicks. after no movement and no changes I candles. Nada. I cracked them and found one day four quitter and two partially cooked yolks. So, guess operator error and high temps foiled this one. Hopefully I can fix those issues! Thanks for all the advice and...

Help with my homemade incubator please!

Florida - I was hoping that might be the case! I don't see any holes this morning, but I also can't see the entire egg surface. This morning it's dropped back a bit, but is still higher than it was yesterday morning. Arrggghhh! They need to go on and hatch already!

Help with my homemade incubator please!

Okay, first of all, is it normal that I'm checking on those eggs like every half hour to an hour?? Serious question now : humidity and temp have been perfectly steady since lockdown began. Then a couple of hours ago the humidity started to climb slowly. It's now almost at 75%. is this normal...

Help with my homemade incubator please!

Okay today is Day 21. I have been avidly watching and listening for the last couple of days, much to my dh s amusement. At least someone is getting something out of my experiment! And, I swear I saw one rocking! Not so sure now, but at the time I was sure it did a little rock twice! Question...

Help with my homemade incubator please!

Hey, Happy Hens, It's that nonstick drawer liner stuff. I got a roll for $1 at the dollar tree. It has small holes to let any hatching liquid fall thru but is soft for new chicks to walk on, I hope! Got humidity hanging steady at 70%. I had to break seal to add a cup of steaming water to...

Help with my homemade incubator please!

Hey, HappyHens! I had three to begin with and I candles this morning. They are light brown eggs with a mottling on the shell. And this is my first experience with candling! But, having said that there is a rather large dark mass in each of the three eggs, though one is smaller than the others. I...

Help with my homemade incubator please!

Woo hoo! Today is lockdown and we are getting to the nitty gritty! I keep going to peek (no opening - don't have to with a whole wall made of glass!). Dang, I'm going to be up all night Friday and Saturday night waiting for these suckers to hatch! I'm going to be sloop disappointed if nothing...

Help with my homemade incubator please!

Thanks for continued info! I need it! If you can use it, dawn dish soap makes a brand marketed to remove smell as well as clean. It's worked on everything I've used it on, including old Tupperware . Don't want the new babies to hatch out to the smell of spoiled milk:sick LOL!

Help with my homemade incubator please!

I candles the eggs again tonight (I k ow I should wait but I'm weak! I deserve a bit of slack since I've never done this before, right?). Only one is showing a darker spot. The others look pretty much the same as last time. They are dark brown eggs so I decided to leave them in and I'll candle...

Help with my homemade incubator please!

I've never bought hatching eggs before but I do know Elite Silkie sells hers online. She's the one who was giving away 6 eggs to the person who correctly guessed her final gap for the summer semester. The pictures of her birds are beautiful. What is a good price for hatching eggs...

Help with my homemade incubator please!

I haven't been able to find anything online about it either. Lap? Yours sit in your lap? Mine like my back of shoulder, and they are LFs! I can't even lean over to pick up the waterer for a refill without picking up a hitchhiker! I might have to send mine to you for manners training!

Help with my homemade incubator please!

Are they all Aruacanas? I have the darndest time deciding which kind of chickens I want. Maybe that's a condition of chicken math? The locally owned feed store I get many of my chicks from told me we aren't allowed to ship in Araucanas anymore due to state regulations. Something about breeders...
