I mix it. The litter I use is Feline Pine. It's essentially pine pellets. What's odd about it is that the urine disappears. It turns the pellets to dust, but the litter box never gets heavy. The litter box doesn't really smell unless I go too long between changing, and the PDZ helps with that...

A colander is a great idea! My kitty scooper works pretty well, but I do lose some poop. I use a dustpan, too, and then dump it into the compost bin. I have only have two Pullets, so there's not that much to clean, and they poop in the same spot under their roost every night, but PDZ is awesome...

My feed store ordered it for me, but they're great that way for everything, including dog food.

Looks good! I have a removable 2 x 3 at the door so I can scrape straight into a dustpan when I'm doing full cleaning (my coop sits on top of the run so it's floor is at 4 feet). The PDZ is so nice. It's easier to strain the coop than my cat litter box! Have fun with the girls!

This morning, I added crushed ice with a little water to the plastic mason jar waterer. I think that will work fine, since they have the larger waterer in the run. We've been getting into the 80's all week, and I've worried about the water getting too warm by the afternoon. Instead of texting my...

Hmm. Now you have me worried! It would have to be quite the emergency for me to not get out there in the morning, but I guess it couldn't hurt to leave water in there as long as they don't contaminate it. Since I've raised it, it's been much better, but I can raise it more. We don't have...

That was really helpful with the food and water. I have a tiny flock and tiny coop, so cleaning isn't a big issue (though I do have a poop board and am now using PDZ). I had the food and water in the coop while they were in coop training, but once I opened the door, they stayed in the coop two...

Duly noted! Will be glad to have the PDZ before they stop being cute .

It is a bit shocking how much they poop, even though I was well warned. I only have two young pullets and they alone can produce a lot. But they're in "coop training" so it's the only place they have to go. With just two, it's not that big a deal, though. I just pull the tray out and strain it...

Being ok for composting is a must. Thanks for all the advice.

Thank you! I can't wait to try it. The shipping prices on Amazon make it unaffordable through them, but I would think our feed store would have it, even though horses aren't allowed in the city limits. If not, we have several rural town around us with Tractor Supply Co. stores. Worth the drive...

Thanks. I think I will. I was reading reviews and some people use it for where their dogs potty the most. We have a cat and three dogs. I'm used to cleaning up poop of every variety! We walk the dogs every day, but they're still out back a lot and they like to use an area of crushed granite that...

Poop board convert *warning-graphic/gross poop pictures*

As of yesterday, I have a tiny flock of two in a small coop that, at max, will hold three hens (per city regulations). Maintenance won't be a big issue, but I felt like I wasted a lot of shavings when I scooped their poop off the poop board this morning. Sweet PDZ sounds like the way to go...
