Go to the Arizona state forum thread and start readin or askin. You'll probably get a great idea and may be able to pick up some from a fellow BYC'er!:highfive:
Agreed! I really love this feed store, they are always bringin in new breeds and it's been a blast just gettin 2 of each different breed I want to try. On the other hand, it's funny how some of us can have the exact same breed and one ends up with "the chickens from Hades" and another says...
They lay at least every other day and sometimes everyday. They are also known to be broody though mine have not done so yet (they aren't a year old yet). I got them from a feed store here that orders from different hatcheries and I have been able to raise about 15 different breeds so far which...
Mine made it through the Texas summer just fine. Honestly, they are so cute! They are short to the ground so they don't always make it to the "treats" fast enough, when I throw some out, so I'll sneak around and see where they are and try to give them some first. I have three of them and when I...
Roosters on my farm are for chicken stock, lol. I definitely save the fat and skim it off the top after refrigerating it, though I have never thought about using it for potatoes! Love that idea. Thanks for makin me drool!:drool:frow
Yep....I still use my hands to pluck. There is a peacefulness as I'm doin it. I'm interested in the skinnin instead of pluckin.....may have to try it this next year (after some research, lol)
Yeah, if you do the bleed out method you won't have that problem and if you just cut the head off you can put a grocery bag (plastic) or bucket and hang it so the part where the head was, is in the container and any movement of the body or blood will go into the container.
Don't know if ya'll have heard of Dorkings but they have big breasts and they are wonderful docile chickens. If you are a white meat person they're great to have.
@BYCforlife that is the beauty of this site. You can create a thread and have others who are likeminded, join in and share their thoughts, suggestions or just come on over to learn. So thank you for starting this thread. :love
SOOOOOOOOO me......I cry and pray over every single animal I either butcher or have to put down because they are too sick to go on. I still haven't been able to put down the sick ones....I have a vet do it. I don't let friends butcher my animals because I feel since I took on the responsibility...
She finds it cruel because she is vegetarian, so its not the why or how you do it, its the fact that it is done. When I was vegetarian I felt the same way. It's actually pretty weird how some of us grow up eating meat and then go to vegetarianism and then others grow up vegetarian and switch...
Wasn't going to go there and then thought....shoot when I was a vegetarian I would never have come on this thread. There are certain threads on here I never go to because I don't agree with the thread line but I'm happy there is a thread line for those who want to do those things so they can...
I've just got a question, serious question.....why did you post on this thread? When I was vegetarian I would have never even gone to this thread (based on the title of it)...much less post on it.....I live a positive outlook on life and I believe what you put out is a reflection of your...
