One hatched. It is doing very fine.

Out of the seven eggs I set, only one was viable. The other six were all pullet eggs which was dumb on my behalf. So far, the chick has peirced the air cell and I can hear them chirping through the shell. No external pip yet though.

I think broody still counts!

Anybody else impatiently staring at their incubator wauting for chicks to hatch even though you just put them in today?

I decided to pull the porous egg. I didnt want to take any chances. I have an egg in there from the same hen. I will see if i can replace that one too as it has been refrigereated. As of now, i replaced the porous egg with an egg i know will hatch.

No cracks but the shell is extremely porous.

Is this egg ok to hatch? They arent spots on the outside. And it was quite dirty. I gently wiped it off and saw these dark purple spots. Should I pull it?

My favorite chicken laid her first egg yesterday. I hope they all start laying soon so I have enough to set for Easter and enough to give to my old science teacher to hatch.
